Of course it does. Winning team in Brooklyn or a Winning team in West Heampstead?? Hmm let me think where the big money is going. Like I said just look at the Nets - Vukota
A big part of what has made the nets successful in Brooklyn is obviously they have a pretty decent team, and also their marketing. Jay-Z appeals to a massive amount of people and I think that helps. Also, it's a novelty right now. How many nets fans are there.? It sounded like MSG when the Knicks played there.
I agree, if the isles still stink when they go there it won't work and I also think a good team in Nassau works with the right building and revenue streams. |

This. It's all about the owner, manager, and building to an extent. Location is a big deal, not denying it but this location worked extremely well and it would again if given a real chance. |

It will never be like the 80's again. The league is a mutli billion dollar operation now and it wasn't back then. I'm talking strictly from a business stand point not from a fans perspective just so I'm clear. I just don't see how anybody can say right now from a pure business stand point W. Hempstead is a better location then Brooklyn? With all things being equal of course |

I don't know if any of you have seen the newspapers, but the crime rate around the Barclays Center is the lowest its EVER been because the police presence there has skyrocketed. Believe me, that has been a poophole neighborhood for decades, too.
The crime rate about a mile west of the Coliseum is probably at least 5X higher.
Might not sound right to some of you, but it's the truth. Moving to Brooklyn is probably the best thing that could have happened to this franchise. End of discussion. Now....if Wang could sell the team...*fingers crossed* again...I'M BUYING MOTHER(frank)ERS!! |

I just don't see Brooklyn as some hot bed for hockey. Buisness or otherwise. There are alot of coporations and investment firms on LI, prob more so than Brooklyn. Also most of corporate workers working in Manhattan live on LI. Buisness owners, management, etc. I see your point but disagree. I just don't believe in the hype surronding Brooklyn. I've spent quite a bit of time there and if you think Hempstead is a shat dump than you need to be in some parts of Flatbush or other parts of Brooklyn after 10 PM. Brooklyn has the absolute shattiest areas in all of NY, if you want to scare the shat out of yourself get lost in some housing unit over there after dark. lol. Yeah Williamsburgh became trendy once the gays and artist moved there, just like alphabet city, hells kitchen and anywhere else in Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn. Park Slope and some areas of Brooklyn Heights are nice. There will always be fads, especially in NY where I thnk that word was invented? |

They were never staying in Nassau. I don't have the vaguest idea why some of you can't get that in your heads. - potvin05
We shall see? I'm not devastated by any means with them going to Brooklyn, don't misunderstand me. I'd just prefer they stay in Nassau with a new owner, GM, and building of course. I'd also like Getzlaf, Perry, Rhinne, and Malkin to come play for us too |

I live on the Nassau/Suffolk border...you don't think I love driving to the Coliseum in less than 20 minutes?? This makes things a little inconvenient for me, but, who cares? I'd rather take the train to the game than have to buy Center Ice package and watch them play their home games 100s, if not 1000s, of miles away.
This is definitely a move that behooves (yes, I used the word behooves) the franchise. |

Seems to working for the Nets. When they were awesome in Jersey nobody outside of jersey cared. Now they are much more popular in Brooklyn and I'm willing to bet the Corporate money they are getting now is much more then they ever got in Jersey even when they went to the finals a couple of years. - Vukota
I think Brooklyn has potential to work for the Islanders, but I don't think using the Nets is a good analogy. Brooklyn has a basketball culture that greatly exceeds hockey culture and the Nets have Jay-Z, not to mention the black and white unis, which are an attention getter in terms of young people. The rivalry between the Nets and the Knicks has also been capitalized on by Nets ownership in terms of the team's marketing strategy. Plus the Nets made offseason strides to improve the actual product into a winning team. They're "in". And the building is brand new. That has the mass appeal that attracts corporate attention.
Also, Barclays Center is a basketball building. It was stupidly created without hockey in mind, probably to go the cheapest route possible. Obviously the Isles to Brooklyn wasn't deemed a realistic possibility at that time but long-term foresight is never a bad thing in these situations. You want your building to be as ideally versatile as possible. So they're going to be playing in a building that seats a little less than 15,000 people, with little knowledge of how the building's sightlines will work for hockey in the more remote parts of the arena. Not to mention the rink being off-center to the majority of the prime basketball seats. The attraction of the building for hockey will not approach its attraction for basketball.
Personally, I live in the Bronx and I could not be happier about this move. It makes the Islanders very accessible to me when I want to see a Devils road game. I don't know that it will work any worse or better than a state of the art hockey building would, but there are some inherent disadvantages out of the gate for a hockey team playing in Barclays Center compared to a true hockey building on LI. |

You make good points but nobody is going to convince me West hempstead makes the Islanders more valuable then being in Brooklyn. Just announcing the move raised the value of the team alone. What does that tell you? |

I 100% agree which i stated numerous times in most of my posts today. It's just if I had a choice between Brooklyn and a state of the art "Coliseum"(this one made me laugh )I'd take the Coliseum. Just me. There is no one more excited than me that my team is going to be in NY for another 25 years, I'm not whining but I'd rather them stay right where they are. I don't care if the crime rate dropped near the Barclays center. Of course they beefed up police force for the new building but we're talking Brooklyn here. Either way I've never felt threatened except from a couple Ranger fans in Hempstead or the Coliseum. |

They could've been moving to Orient Point, with a 25 year lease and a commitment of course it's going to raise the value of the team. Believe me i get your point to an extent but I don't think people are going to be so high on Brooklyn in a couple years. Once again, I'm not unhappy about the move there just preferred they'd stay. |
