there are the dudes that put up point/game+ year-to-year, then there are guys that, due to variance, range from 50-70 year-to-year. you'll see courturier in that latter group and given his defensive contributions, gives him #1 center value, imo. - OrangeBlack27

j staal/bergeron. thought couturier does kind of skate like handzus - OrangeBlack27
ya, the skating will likely keep him from becoming an offensive force. i'll take a p. bergeron any day of the week though. 20-25 goals and stellar defense. |

I was hoping he'd look stronger skating than what he's shown so far |

Think Pitt. Cindy malkin staal. Think Philly g schenn cooter. Cooter will alway be 3rd line center in Philly and he's no staal. What do think his ceiling is? If you agree with my 18 g 25 asst then you have to move him while his stock is high. As long as you max that trade. Scoring winger young goalie #1 dman. - SMS4016
Couturier has every bit of a chance to be as good as Jordan Staal, if not better. And he certainly has a chance to be a much better player then Brayden Schenn. I think the problem is that you're not seeing all of Couturier's game. Failing to mention his off the charts hockey sense and his future Selke level potential as a 2 way forward.

regardless, he's so damned smart and good with his stick that it makes up for it. |

Yandle... really?
So give up a guy in coots who is a better defender and will likely end up putting up more points? Ill pass.
If I am trading Coots im doing it in a package to get an established #1 dman or a top end guy like Bogosian. Id have trouble even making that trade I think. - jak521
We need puck mover pp guy. Yandle was example. These dmen are out there. I don't care if they give up cooter and whatever else. Point isTeams need centers. We have g schenn Laughton coots a huge asset. Get a perry bernier yandle take your pick. Fill a major need for now and future. |

maybe that's why I have a hard time seeing his potential. He's such an ugly slow-looking skater. He looks very thin and easlily out-muscled. I'm also concerned by accounts that he's a very shy quiet kid. Makes me feel like he doesn't have a lot of confidence. It's easier for me to see the potential in a guy like B Schenn. |

If you're a great skater but have no idea of where to be, what good is it? That's why a player like Couturier may not be a great skater, but he can play fast. Due to his anticipation and hockey sense.

He's 20 years old. Wait a few years until he matures physically. When a kid can come in and play in the NHL as a 19 year old in the situations he has. There isn't a confidence issue.

Homer will keep Cooty and Schenn just to prove he made the right decision trading Richards and Carter. I think they will both be very good players in time |

We do need a puck mover. But you don't trade a player like Couturier for a player like Yandle.
What makes you think that Bernier is so good?

You have to expect growing pains with a young player. Hell, Giroux seems slow this year.

Not seeing what's unreasonable about big expectations for Couturier, but that's just me. |

I would not make any of the trades that you suggest. All bad deals in my opinion. 32 is nothing for a Goalie. Bryzgalov can easily play, and play well into his late 30's. Bernier and Schnieder are unproven. - MJL
Hasek was unproven in Chicago too. Soo you want this team to run the coarse. So no cup coming. You'll be saying same thing in 5 years that has been going on for last 40. So in 5 years when we've wasted g then what. This team NEEDS youth in goal and #1 dman then in 2 or 3 years we explode |

This team already has the Goalie it needs. They do need a #1 D man. So propose a deal involving Couturier for a #1 D man, and we'll talk.

Couturier is vital to this team's success. More so that any puck-mover (Subban included) that they could acquire. He takes all tough minutes against other team's top lines and does it so well, and the fact that he can contribute on the offensive side -- hopefully blossoming into a regular 20g/30a guy -- makes him invaluable.
I'm conservative on his offensive output, not as a slight to his off. skills, but because he's likely playing with fellow defensive-oriented wings and constantly starting out in the defensive zone vs. other team's top lines.
Similar to Braydon Coburn on the defensive side. |
