based on his reaction on the bench when they showed him with his head in his hands with a few seconds to go in the game, it seemed like DP knew his job is on the line and he failed.... - LetsGoIsles
I suppose we may just be taking it that way after the comments from Staples conversatin yesterday but I got that feeling as well. |

I'm blaming EVERYONE but I'm not obsolving Nabby either. I think for the most part he's been very average this year and you can't have 'average' on a below average squad. The defense is the primary problem but the goaltending has not been very good thus far. I think we can do better in both positions. - keaner17
Average. = much better than DP |

its prob a combo of that and plenty of wishful thinking...but he just looked TOTALLY dejected after the game (more than normal), from a human standpoint, i actually felt bad for him...from an islander fan standpoint, i was doing cartwheels. |

I spent the first few years of DP's career defending him because I think a lot of folks simply expected too much from him. Others had the knives sharpened for him before he ever even stepped on the ice.
That said, he simply never had the discipline to be a great goaltender. Sadly he was an exceptional athelete but now isn't even a comparable shell to his former self. He's tried, but two hip surgeries, a sports hernia, multiple knee surgeries, etc...it's simply too much. |

How can anyone get on Hamonic? For the "oh my god, let's not rush these kids" crowd, that's exactly what they've done with him. Not saying he doesn't belong here, he absolutely does, but they have him paired against the number one line every night. He plays on the #1 PK and the #2 PP units, and he racks up easily 25 minutes a game. What is he, 23 years old, without checking, tops?
How do justify Hamonic getting his brains kicked in every night and keeping guys like Ness or Donovan at Bridgeport over the immortal Hickey or Finley? It's a (frank)ing joke, just like everything else. |

exactly!!! every reason you mentioned are legit reasons why he looks like he is being overused. i dont think anyone wants to rush to get him out (ill speak for myself, i dont) but he has looked tired recently. thats all thats being said. just an observation, which i think if you read between the lines on what you wrote, you too believe it. |

See the first goal last night. I like Hamonic and say he's far and away our best dman (it's not even close ) but I don't think he's played particularly well since being paired with AMac. That's more of a knock on AMac since I think Hamonic as to compensate for AMacs crappy play, but I've also seen Hamonic making a few too many mistakes like on Greenings goal as of late.
This all falls back on coaching (IMO). This team has no defensive accountability. But NO ONE is above being critiqued. From when JT makes a boneheaded blind pass right on the stick of a defender to when Frans refuses to get a shoulder on ANYONE. Everyone is accountable. |

totally agree. I never criticize Hamonic for his play, he's playing above his comfort zone and he's doing just fine. I can't stand Amac. After last season I was on the fence figured see what he does next year and boom - sucks moosecock. |

send him down, bring up Poulin, Nelson, Nino and Donovan. I guess it comes down to Wang being too cheap or broke to pay these guys for NHL time. This team needs a shakeup, and God knows they're not gonna trade to improve the team. Let's see what these kids can bring. |

I am shocked nothing has happened yet. Something has to give with this team already.
It seems even Dee is on strike |

It was on newsday's chat with Staple. He felt that DP was a bad performance away from Bridgeport. Not exactly the word of God, but worth crossing fingers for! |

From NHL Trade Rumors:
The New York Islanders are actively shopping their captain, Mark Streit, for the 2013 NHL season. Streit has a $4.1 million cap hit contract that is about to expire. The steady defenseman accumulated 47 points in 82 game last year. He is going to demand another contract that pays him over $4 million.
The 35 year old defenseman was a late bloomer, playing many hockey seasons in Switzerland, the country that he was born into. He got his start in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens in 2005-2006 and continues to be an offensive threat on the back end.
GM Garth Snow is looking to trade Streit for draft picks because the NY Islanders have an owner that is unwilling to spend over the cap floor. The Philadelphia Flyers, Carolina Hurricanes, Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild are interested in acquiring Mark Streit before the trade deadline.
