This might be a stupid question, but here goes: I know the salary cap is set to go down in the short term future, but past that it's expected to go back up, correct?

But wouldnt Mcginn fill the role of Knuble more than Rinaldo? I would leave Zac on the fourth line and try Mcginn on the wing on the 3rd line.
- Stinkfitz

Knuble kills penalties though, unlike Rinaldo (who just doesn't seem smart enough, although appears to have the skills). He can also play effectively on the second PP unit. Those two things are going to keep him in the lineup over guys like Rinaldo more often than not.

If it were up to me, I'd have McGinn playing over Rinaldo every day. I might shuffle some lines and not necessarily use McGinn on the 4th line, but I think he'd be effective there if needed. For me, there is just no upside to Rinaldo over McGinn.

I'd be ok with this, I just prefer to remove the penalties Rinaldo attracts and keep the veteran presence of Knuble in the lineup.

any reason Rinaldo can't play PK? He's got some wheels and is pretty fearless.

PK requires the capability for rational thought and quick, sound decision making. Not exactly Rinaldo's strong suits.

I read somewhere that they tried using him on the PK in Adirondack and it didn't work out too well. Can't recall where exactly I saw it though. Shame really, because like you point out he has all the physical talents to be a good PK guy.

EDIT: Or, as MOAT put it so succinctly, nobody likes killing a 5 on 3!

Yeah, that's my one concern with trying this. Otherwise, I'd say it's worth a look.

What is Knuble's role anyway? He's been effective sporadically this year.
- NickTheKid87

I meant as more of a power forward type player. I have been disappointed he is takiing younger players ice time. Seems he is in the lineup for what he did in the past instead of the present.Even if he and Mcginn or Rinaldo were going to give you the exact output i prefer giving the young guys the experience.

I wasn't questioning you or anything, just not sure where Knuble fits with the emergence of Tye McGinn. I'm with you, I'd rather give the kids ice time. Knuble could use a game or two to rest those old bones anyway.

that's the easy answer. give the guy a role, i bet he'd succeed. give him more legitimacy in the league, bogus calls go down based on reputation alone. not that we need anyone else on the PK right now.

We have a plethora of proven penalty killers (Giroux, Talbot, Read, Couturier, Fedotenko, Voracek). There's no need to experiment. It's about winning games, not helping out somebodies rep. He can do that himself by controlling his game, which he's already started to do.

I am not sure of his role either. Mcginn needs to be in the lineup when healthy unless he regresses. If the first line of jake-G-read keep up the play for the next couple of games what would happen when hartnell comes back? Schenn back to centering jake and read with G in the middle of Breire and harts??

as i stated, no need right now. somebody was commenting that they would rather take him out of the lineup than Knuble due to Knuble's qualities, among others, PK. Got me thinking about whether, with work, Rinaldo couldn't be an effective penalty killer.
