A bad line change by Couturier and Talbot on the pk against Buffalo says to me, I need to see Couturier do what he did last season again.
- SuperSchennBros

One bad line change is one play. Schenn made a bad line change in the playoffs during an OT that cost the Flyers a game.

Young guys will have plays that are bad.

If Briere's gone, Schenn is likely to be the second line center next year. Couturier will probably slot in as the third line center. I doubt Talbot plays scoring line center. Read might, but he'll probably stay on a wing unless there's injury.

I'm quite happy to have both, and just because I rate Couturier slightly higher today doesn't mean that won't change in 12 months. As I say, I had Schenn rated higher heading into last season, but Couturier's display of just pure hockey sense changed my mind. It's not a closed case that it will stay that way.

At some point down the road ownership will have to decide which one to keep. I can't see them keeping both simply for cap reasons. It will be interesting to see what they do.

Do they do it alone? Schenn pretty much did...
- SuperSchennBros

Yeah he did. He had a monster tourney. Not knocking him. You seem to think I'm taking a poop on Schenn. Far from it. I'm saying that I rate Couturier slightly ahead of him, and further that's not etched in stone.

It's possible that they could end up keeping both. Say the Flyers can move Simmonds or Voracek for a good defenseman. Schenn could easily slide to wing.

true. I do think schenn has played better at C but that doesn't mean he can't improve on the wing.

I'm willing to be very patient. I'm not willing to trade either Schenn or Couturier for less than an all star caliber player, and it has to be a young one at that.

He's looked good on the wing the last few games he's played there. I do think he's more comfortable at center, but I don't see that much of a drop at wing. That said, if they could keep Giroux, Schenn & Couturier down the middle, that's hard to plan against.

Then my response is simple. Both young players are placed in different roles. Couturier may never see another position outside of center. Schenn will probably bounce between center and wing his role career. Almost apples and oranges as to who will be the better player.
- SuperSchennBros

Then place Couts on Defense and we have one hell of a shut down offensive defensmen

Why must we compare?

Lettuce be glad we have two talented young C's each one with their own strengths along with Sir G.

Hopefully they both have long and successful careers with this team.

You want to trade 26 year old Matt Read (7G/6A, +1), and a second round pick, for a 35 year old Iginla (1G/8A, -3)? Even if you ignore the cap considerations, this just seems like a bad hockey trade. Not saying Jarome is completely washed up, but he's sure as hell not worth his $7M cap hit. I'll stick with Read and his $900K hit, and keep the pick.

I was joking, I like how the team looks we just need a good puck moving defensman. I wanted to see how many discussions I could stir up

I'm don't think i'm totally fixated on the offensive side of the puck, the points are nice (and needed)... but to me Schenn brings speed, intensity, and physicality that I don't see coots bringing. In Lavy's system i think schenn has the ability to be a more dangerous player, and yes, especially on the forecheck. In a system like NJ I'd imagine Coots would be dominant.
- moylander

I don't care what system a team plays. A top 2 way player is always going to be a better player then a one way offensive player. And you don't match up against a player like Malkin and shut him down without bringing intensity and physical play.

I think you are underestimating Schenn as a player before we have seen his full potential. It's the NHL and many players have learned to clean up their own end of the ice sometimes later their careers.
- SuperSchennBros

I don't think I am at all. Schenn can certainly better his all around game. Defensively there is ample room there for improvement. But he's never going to be the defensive player that Couturier is. It's all depends on Couturier's offensive game. If it catches up to his D, which I think it will. He'll be a much better player.

Luke Schenn has time to reach his full potential but I am more likely to give Coburn the edge for now. Great skater for a player his size and I like his puck movement better then Luke Schenns. If it came down defending a lead or an offensive situation, I would choose Coburn over Schenn. Big Brother Schenn has played we'll but the jury is still out on him. I think Luke would be very lucky to become what Coburn already is, I just wish Coburn would cut down on the dumb penalties.
- SuperSchennBros

Coburn is 27, soon to be 28. It's what you see is what you get at this point. Luke Schenn right now is a better player then Coburn is. And right now a lot of that is due to Coburn isn't playing as well as he can. But if Luke Schenn just becomes what Coburn is. It'll be disappointing. His upside is much more then that.

whereas coots played malkin perfectly in the playoffs and gets well deserved recognition for that brayden's 9 points in 11 playoff games goes pretty much unnoticed. offense is just as important as defense.
- moylander

It is. But to put it simply, a player that brings offense and defense, is a better player then one who just brings offense. And Schenn's 9 points in 11 playoff games has not gone unnoticed. At least not by me.

Hows that not smart? obviously in cap sense, but they are deffinatly missing the veteren on the top line and its a step in the right direction. Mat read is a ufa at the end of this season so his cap hit wont matter soon enough. Im not saying we go after iginla but we go after someone that can continue to mentor. So shut you keyboard and get off your computer idiot
