I didn't get to watch the game yesterday, but saw the highlights.
One several goals, (the Read and Rinaldo ones specifically), Nabakov seemed way out of position, basically coming 4 feet out and spinning around in circles. I've been reading about how he made some nice saves, but he looked pretty awful on those 2, as well as the 2nd G goal. I'm not saying the Flyers didn't deserve them, but Nabakov didn't help his own cause on them either. |

I'd love to have Johnson, but I can't see Colorado moving him. Teams rarely trade quality young defenseman with #1 potential. - BiggE
That's the thing, If I'm moving Couturier's potential I want a #1 defenseman or somebody with the kind of potential. I agree with Bill on Couturier's ceiling.
20-25 goals, 65 points and Selke level defense is hard to find. Kid's 20 years old and he's already a shut down center. |

couts, coby for ROR, EJ and a 2nd...that's prob as far as i could stretch it. we save a little on one contract, but couts vs ROR would hurt $$-wise. |

The Coburn for EJ aspect leaves the defense group pretty much the same. EJ's better & cheaper, but only slightly and Gervais is still playing too many minutes |

I agree, Couturier reminds me a lot of Guy Carbonneau, but with more offensive upside and those guys don't grow on trees. The problem is #1 defenseman don't grow on em either and are almost impossible to acquire. |

I'm one of those who feel that they don't absolutely need a number one defenseman, just a good, top four puck mover. When Meszaros gets back, you add a good solid puck mover, you have a good defense.

Only sorta related: Would you trade B. Schenn for J. Carlson straight up? I'm biased, so I'd be tempted. |

I honestly think this was the Flyers practicing due diligence per usual and the thing just kinda blew up. I blame Twitter, Matt Carle and Lavy's system in that order. |

You forgot Carter, it's mainly his fault. Shot it right into Niemi's chest. |

I would also add Jeff Carter, John Stevens, Lindros' father, Hextall's wonky groin, Dave Poulin's ribs, and Leon Stickle. |

the whole thing is dependent upon your opinion of EJs upside. if he dramatically improves, then it would be worth it, but i would not make take that gamble. |

Oh yeah, if he managed to realize the potential he had when he was drafted, absolutely. |

I would at least consider it. Both guys have a lot of potential and are already impact players. |

Good point, I would be happy with a solid top 6 that can match against any line. I think when Mez comes back they have 5. While i feel that Gustafsson or Gervais are ok as the 6th man, I would much rather pick up one more solid defenseman at the deadline for maybe a 2nd and a prospect and let Gus and Gervais be the spares.

May as well throw in Howe's knees, Kerr's shoulder and Clarke trading McCrimmon for a couple of picks too!!

Agreed. The defense isn't bad, just not crazy about the mix...it leans big and defense first. |

can we keep our own 1st round pick for more than 5 minutes, without dumping him trying to fill a need elsewhere, for (frank)'s sake?
he's a 20 year old kid with tremendous potential, who has already done an admirable job at the nhl level. he was a gift selection at #8.
