What is the harm in drafting either Pullock, Morrissey or Nurse instead of wasting assets on second tier d-men via a trade?
If the Flyers are to make a move, I hope it would be for a guy who has real #1 potential, not a secondary type of player.

With Simmonds as the Centerpiece of a Yandle deal what else whould you need?
Would Runblad be an upgrade over Gus? What would he cost? - jstross
If past trades are an indicator Simmonds, Cousins, Gus and a high draft pick for Yandle+ |

I'd think a prospect like Laughton and a 1st or 2nd rounder. At a guess.
Rundblad would be an upgrade over Gus. His value, IMO, lies in if he's in the NHL or AHL. They can't expect to demand a 1st rounder and prospect if he can't even make their roster-talent on hand besides the point. |

I think Voracek has the higher skill ceiling, so I would hope it would be Simmonds in that proposed deal. Or B Schenn. But it would be great if the Flyers could take advantage of the Coyotes' money problems to take Yandle off their hands. - Feanor
I will not trade Voracek or Schenn period. Jake is a stud just coming into his own and Schenn is getting much more consistent every game. Simmonds to me is very good but belongs on the third line on a good team. |

That is the direction I would be leaning.
If you cannot make a deal for a guy like OEL, Subban, Myers or Weber then stick with the draft.

In all fairness to Rundblad it is hard to give him ice time because OEL eats up minutes onPP and PK, Yandle eats up PP minutes and that leaves Rundblad with 10 seconds of PP time. Rundblad is scary as a stay at home dman and as much as I love his offensive talent sometime I think he should be a winger On the other hand let Tippett teach him defence and whoever gets him down the road will get a better player. He might even be grooming him to take over for Yandle one day when he gets too pricey. |

It is deep yes.
There are also a number of d-men who have very high potential that are expected to fall somewhere between #10-20.
Ristolainen, Nurse, Morrissey and Pulock. I'd love any one of them. All have size, speed and offensive ability.
Zadorov is listed currently as 6 foot 5 and 230 pounds. Is mobile and has some offensive potential. May be out of the Flyers reach however. |

I don't mind flipping a forward for a second tier type defenseman, because it's still dealing from a strength to address a weakness. But I don't want to move picks, if at all possible, especially 1st rounders. |

Exactly. It just adds a bit of anger to the rivalry. If it had been a player from, say Phx, we wouldnt even think about it anymore. Just so happens that a good player on our biggest rival was the guy who threw the combo of dirty hits, and then cowered when it was time to man up. - jak521

There are several mistakes on this list and many of the good ones will likely be resigned before free agency. |

It is hard, and if Rundblad was playing in, say Buffalo, he's in the top 6 at the NHL level.
That said, until he makes his mark a bit more, his trade value wont be as great. |

Is Runblad going to be a pretty consistent guy on this team? Or likely another 2nd tier guy you have no idea if he will have a good night or a rough one.
Or are we going to be praying and hoping like we have all of these years that Coburn is on his hot streak and Meszaros is healthy. Timonen is showing signs of inconsistency and age.
This team needs a consistent rock on defense, and it isnt going to be Grossman. |

There's some that feel that way, others who feel it isn't. 2003 was a mega class. This year isn't that deep, but it's considered better than 2012, for sure. The first 30-45 picks are going to land teams very good prospects.
