That makes as much sense as getting a bona fide #1 guy. In fact, being able to roll three solid pairs that complement the forwards makes more sense to me than landing one guy and doing the all the eggs in one basket approach. - Jsaquella
It would nice to see good balance out of all three pairings. One stay at home and one mobile dman would go a long way. |

I wouldn't give up either for him. Guy flashed a ton of skill, got paid and now he's a mess. Can he recover and have a solid career? Absolutely. But you don't trade a Schenn or Couturier on a question mark that big. - Jsaquella
That's my point exactly. He's got his name on that Calder Trophy which is all well and good but it ramps up his price when the dude's been no more than serviceable since. If Buffalo decided to sell low on him, then sure, let's take a shot. |

Bryzgalov's numbers currently this year, are pretty much in line with his numbers last year. The difference is he's been much more consistent, and has drastically cut down on allowing soft goals. - PLindbergh31
he's been very good but i'd like to see the short-side high blocker goals start to get eliminated. it seems to be a bit of a weakness - both during the game and in the dreaded SO. overall, very happy with with his play. |

These fools on here don't understand this. Yes Philly beat Pitt last year but I think it was more of matter that Pitt had a meltdown. That won't happen again. PiTTs core is still young too but these fools think we can win cup with average bryz no top puck moving dman or top winger. Realistic flyer fans as myself see through the smoke and mirrors. Funny how holmgren was swinging for the fences in free agency. Suter weber parise. But this fools think we can be cup contenders. Not to mention nj bos nyr. Joke. These fools will cry when homer makes the move then love it when it works. Just like when they traded Ritchie and carts. - SMS4016

He's been a victim of some dreadful breakdowns, most notably in the Toronto game. Had the defense been more consistent in front of him, I'd expect he'd have a save % around .920 and a GAA closer to 2.30. |

For the last time you do NOT need a #1 defenseman to win a cup
For example:
Philly in 74 and 75 did not have a number one.
Edmonton in the 80s did not have a number one. Coffey was a phenomenal offensive talent, but he was NOT a number one. He rarely killed penalties and he was NEVER on the ice late in a game where Edmonton was leading. Kevin Lowe was a great shutdown guy, but didnt have the offense to be a real number one
Pittsburgh had a deep solid D in 91 and 92, but no number one.
Tampa had no one in 2004
Carolina had no one in 2006 and
Pittsburgh had no one in 2009
Finally, the jury is still out on LA's Doughty, so LA may have also won a cup without a number one defenseman.
As I have said before, Timonen, Coburn, Mezaros, Schenn and Grossman are a very solid top 5. Trade 2014's 2nd and a prospect for another solid guy and with Gus and Gervais as your depth, the D will be fine. - BiggE
You don't need a great goalie either, but I think in the end it increases the odds of success (goalie and #1 type D-man). If I'm building a team long term, I think I want 1-2 high end forwards, a #1 d-man, and a good/great goalie. You can probably get by without one of those things but again, I think your year to year probability for success is higher with those roles in place.
When you have Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Sid, and Malkin, you may be able to get by though.

It's always wonderful when somebody comes in with questionable ideas, cries about getting crucified when others don't agree with his ideas, then issues a group attack on those who do criticize his ideas without ever offering any kind of solid defense of his opinions.
Ladies and gentlemen, we now know the sound of one hand clapping. |

Do you think Holmgren could have just traded Carter for the pick and Jake? I just think that wouldnt have sat well with Richards and the locker room. I was ok with carter going but didnt want to see Richards go but i like the haul they got back for him. - Stinkfitz
He could have, but he also wanted to demote Richards and make Pronger captain for the next few years. That situation would have been untenable.
They got a good return on Richards, but I would prefer he was still here. Unlike Carter, he actually stepped his game up in the playoffs for the Flyers. |

Its exactly what ive been preaching for a while now. We dont need to go out and get OEL or the like.
Look at the devils. They have any big time names? Those players are not the norm. - jak521
yes look at the devils. they won their cups with stevens and niedrmeyer. the flyers don't have a consistent org philosophy that they stick with long enuf like NJ to be able to be the exception to the rule like NJ was last yr. meanwhile, most of the cup winners post lockout have had dominant dmen as catalysts. i'd have full faith that they flyers can draft and develop a forward to replace someone like couts...zero faith with a top pairing dman, so they will always have to overpay in terms of assets and/or $$. |

We need a TOP LINE WINGER. All we have now is a couple FIRST LINE WINGERS. Need BOB RYAB because he'd score 50 goals playing with GIR. Need SHANE WEBBER from the NASHUA PREDEATERS or maybe KIETH YANDELL from the QUEBEC COYOTES. Can't win with out BIG NAME players such as these. Oh, and trade BRYSBOBSKOV for BOBERT LULONGO. |
