Just a hunch Ian - as is common with concussions.. let the player sleep and see what further symptoms are presented.

He specially said it was a major concern. That's what he actually said - not some misquoted crap that fits nicely with the narrative you're attempting to spin.

And let's just say.. for arguments sake.. that Hossa was blindsided in the head with a forearm/elbow from a defenseless position.. came off the ice and the trainers felt he was just "OK".. after what happened to him last year, don't you think they'd take every precaution necessary to make sure there are no further symptoms?

Nope! We'll go with "Canuck talk" and think he was "faking it" or "playing it up".

When your best player leaves a game, I'm pretty sure it's a major concern.

Vigneault had a major concernin '07 when Lu had the runs.

If you're so sure he has a concusion, let's make a bet.

I'll post whatever you want to write about in the blog against, what are you willing to offer?

Just because Kesler got caught doesn't mean he was the only one diving.
- docmorgan

I'm seriously sick and tired of this BS from Kesler, hopefully his teammates talk to him! I don't care if others do it, that's not the point, just (frank)in cut it out!!!

Pathetic.

But, yes, that's what he is seemingly arguing or wondering.

- CaptainBlackhawk

I agree.... it's one thing to say whether or not it was a cheap shot but to claim Hossa was acting or embellishing is ridiculous. It's insulting to a great player. I don't care if you put it in bold letters on your blog, you are insinuating that's what Hossa was doing and that's completely classless. Really and truly classless. I would expect more from a HockeyBuzz blogger.

Most doctors would say to stay awake for at least 5 hours, upwards to 24 hours depending on the severity of the trauma. And that the patient should not sleep unsupervised for 48 hours following the trauma. But what do I know?....

And you have zero clue if someone from the Hawks staff wasn't at his house yesterday supervising him.

And you have zero clue on if they were.

Yeah, in reality, with the advent of portable CT scanners, it's not quite as necessary as brain bleeds can be discovered immediately, but it's important to keep an eye on them. I'm sure the Blackhawks did, I'm just surprised there haven't been any updates on his condition yet.

an update on his condition will be released right before the hearing. and it won't be favorable.

Well, that would be sad on several levels. Sad for Hossa, as he is a great player, and sad that the Hawks would time it like that to try and affect the hearing.

Ian: I have zero clue if he has a concussion or not and if he'll miss time. Zero. Ziltch.

What I do know is that the local blogger who has very good sources inside the organization is reporting that he IS presenting concussion like symptoms.

What I do know is he had a very major one mere months ago that took many months to recover from. When you're blindsided in the head by an elbow/forearm in a defenseless position with everything else taken into consideration you assume that it is a very big time concern.

To state or infer that he was faking it or flopping it is simply irresponsible. To state that it wasn't a dirty hit after the NHL released the fact that they are meeting with Hansen less than 24 hours after the hit (note: They don't want him back on the ice again before their next game) is irresponsible. But I know you know that.

But then again that's "Canuck speak". Also to honestly believe that the Hawks removed him out of the remainder of a very close game, against one of their biggest rivals, in a very important conference game... because.. they didn't think he had a concussion and wanted to make a statement is something I l like to call: Canuck speak.

I saw someone say every NHL player who's had a concussion should wear a yellow helmet the rest of their careers... How many you think would be on the ice each game? I'm thinking 5-7 per game.

Put your money where your mouth is hawks fan. So if he plays next game, we agree that there is no concussion?

Nice cheap shot by Hansen. Gold medal winning Olympic diver Kesler is back so the Canucks are back to their old ways? Gilis misplayed this whole thing. He actually thinks anyone is going to give up value for Luongo. Luongo is a great goaltender, but he has a terrible contract. And Schneider still hasn't proved anything. You will get more for him but not a lot. Goalies typically don't get much in return like a forward would.

15 game suspension. Deliberate cheap shot to the back of his head.

I think we agree that he escaped serious injury from an obvious dirty/cheap hit to the head and as a Hawks fan are incredibly happy about that.

Thank you for at least combining all your troll comments that have been re-hashed ad-nauseum for the past few years in one post. Points for being concise.

The only question is whether or not they ban Hansen from the AHL and KHL as well. Clearly he doesn't belong in the NHL with a blind sided punch/elbow to the head. The sheer force of the flying elbow was enough to basically knock Hossa's head off.
Hopefully Hansen can some how be rehabilitated. Maybe one of the angels from hockey's cleanest team (Blackhawks) can teach him how to play a perfect game without ever doing anything that crosses the line.

No one has ever argued that.

But.. the hit itself was 100% dirty and the NHL's immediate reaction pretty much is congruent with my opinion.

I enjoyed TSN's story on the hearing where they said that while Hansen has never been suspended in the NHL, he did receive a one game ban from the IIHF in the world championships for a hit from behind. He's clearly a monster.
