Nice cheap shot by Hansen. Gold medal winning Olympic diver Kesler is back so the Canucks are back to their old ways? Gilis misplayed this whole thing. He actually thinks anyone is going to give up value for Luongo. Luongo is a great goaltender, but he has a terrible contract. And Schneider still hasn't proved anything. You will get more for him but not a lot. Goalies typically don't get much in return like a forward would. - Allstarzz

I enjoyed TSN's story on the hearing where they said that while Hansen has never been suspended in the NHL, he did receive a one game ban from the IIHF in the world championships for a hit from behind. He's clearly a monster. - nucks_94
During the lockout he had an incident overseas... He lost it and tried to fight the whole team.
How many heads will explode if Hansen only gets a fine? - nucks_94
He very well might.
It's the NHL - they continually say they want to do away with these types of hits and then are completely all over the board in regards to the discipline when there is an obvious one that should be disciplined and isn't.

No one has ever argued that.
But.. the hit itself was 100% dirty and the NHL's immediate reaction pretty much is congruent with my opinion. - CaptainBlackhawk
Ya. The NHL and their disciplinary team always get it right. The fact that they have scheduled a hearing with Hansen proves that this was 100% dirty and intentional. The league's perfect track record when it comes to consistency and reliability is unmatched. If scheduling a hearing with Hansen doesn't prove that this was 100% on purpose and a "dirty" play, I don't know what does.

This is why I brought up the Setoguchi cross-check earlier. A blatant cross-check to the face that only resulted in a fine. IMO, Hansen's hit was definitely not worse than this, but he could still end up with a suspension. The inconsistency is annoying.

The funny thing is, if Hansen receives a suspension for a few games, Blackhawks fans will say, "Finally the NHL gets it right. Though he should be banned from hockey for life."
I believe he is asking why high talent players like Toews and Hossa seem to be the recipients of these "hockey play" questionable hits, yet no one seems to show the brass tacks to go after a player that might drop the gloves like a Bollig. If Carcillo, Bollig, Mayers targeted players like the Sedins with elbows to the head and avoided Kassian, and other goonish style players then there would be the same question posed by vancouver players. (and please for the love of GOD do not bring up the Keith hit on D. Sedin since we conceded that Keith made a bad retalitory hit and deserved his suspension for it)
I believe that he is addressing the irony that the Hawks skill players catch a lot of "hockey play" cheap shots, yet no one seems to acknowledge that. case in point, a certain Center for the Hawks made that point last year about a couple of skill players on the Canucks. - ikeane
My question to that guy is are you seriously saying the Canucks only target Chicago's skilled players and in doing so are you really infering the Canucks are the only team to do this. That Chicago never targets the Sedins & Kesler? Bollands whole career is about targeting the twins. As were a few players the last two years on Chicago some who are not there anymore.
Don't recall anyone hitting Kassian last night. I find it funny one side ( that goes for both Chicago and Vancouver) always over look there own players actions. I liked Toews more when he played hard and kept his mouth shut. His constent whining lately of everyone else is bad and we're innocent and good and We only lose when we play bad no other team deserves the victory when they beats us is just garbage.

The Canuck rule came into effect once again last night. Seems every game this year they got a late weak call to put them on the pp in the dying minutes of the game.

Man will Griffin Rienhart get the book tossed at him if he ever crosses the line.
on a side note, I heard from a friend that Hansen doesn't yield to pedestrians

And that's the ultimate issue here..
The NHL's maddening inconsistency. - CaptainBlackhawk
I am guessing it's a 1-2 game suspension just because the game was between two of the NHL's big clubs and the play has received a lot of attention as a result. If this happened in a game between Columbus and Florida we wouldn't even know about it.

I think they should treat headshots like highsticks. You get your stick up and clip some one intensional or not its a penalty. Same should apply to headshots, the problem is the NHL likes to make up the penalty criteria on the fly.
Hansens play..wasnt dirty..was a hockey play..both players were after the puck in air.....both using their hands to get the puck....unfortunate for Hossa.......good player......

So Hansen was trying to elbow the puck in mid-air? Was that his hockey play, elbowing the puck out of mid air? Stupid argument to call it a hockey play, there was nothing about hockey going on there. It was a forearm to the back of Hossa's head, whether he was "reaching" for the puck or not it was a dirty play and deserves a suspension, just like Keith deserved a suspension for the way he hit Sedin.
Why every time there is a "questionable hit that is ONLY a hockey play" are players named Bolland, Hossa, Toews etc and not Bolig, Frolik etc?
Let me tell you why: You know the answer and simply are delusional if you don't believe so.
I'm looking forward to the next game when Carcillo offers an elbow to the back of the head of Kesler or one of the Sedin's and it is simply a "hockey play". - CaptainBlackhawk
I like to think that just as Hansen elbowed Hossa in the head he screamed "Up yours Duncan Keith! Paybacks a female dog!" Then after the game Dan Sedin gave Jannik a high 5 and said "About time someone put a Hawk pansy out for a couple games."
But thats probably wishful thinking.
What probably happened is Jannik went for the puck saw Hossa's head in the way and thought "Oh well." oops.
