Is there any announcer that most people can agree on? I can't think of any, or at least not at the national level. - NickTheKid87
I'd think that almost every non-Bruins fan despises Jack Edwards. |

Gary Thorne's work on ESPN was just tremendous back when they were an actual sports network and broadcast hockey games . - johndewar
he was dreadful with names, though, and he's 10 years older now, so...

Eh, not everyone can be Gene Hart with keeping the names straight AND pronouncing the tough European last names correctly. |

The only reason I like those two is because I grew up with them. Coatsey is just a goof ball and JJ is constantly begging for penalties. I don't mind when they have Bill Clement or Keith Jones up there with him. |

I think JJ's 'complaining' is overstated in general. He definitely pulls the "they're calling this offsides" card fairly often, but for a home broadcaster I don't think he crosses the line (pun not intended).
As for Coatesy, anybody who dislikes him doesn't 'get it'. |

You let a young player play and learn from his mistakes. He's one of their top defensman. Look at the other options. - MJL
Agreed. That will help his development (the flyers lack of better options). That's why the trade was good for both teams. Philly having better options up front and Toronto on the backend were making it tough for JVR & Schenn to stay in the lineup and learn. Young players make mistakes, mainly so they can learn from them. |

I commented on EK blog that this big flyers/penguins rivalry is recent considering the rangers have always been our biggest rival. Crosby hatred has created the rivalry for flyer fans. |

Let's compare the Flyers 1st 9 games to their last 9 games for fun and to pump some life into this thread.
1st 9: 3-6
Claude Giroux: 6 points (3 G, 3A)
Jake Voracek: 4 points (1 G, 3 A)
Brayden Schenn: (8 games) 4 points (1 G, 3 A)
Danny Briere: (5 games) 3 points (1 G, 2 A)
Wayne Simmonds: (8 games) 5 points (2 G, 3 A)
Matt Read: 7 points (3 G, 4 A)
Ilya Bryzgalov: (8 games) 3-5, 2.38 GAA, .920 SV%
Last 9: 5-3-1
Claude Giroux: 9 points (2 G, 7 A)
Jake Voracek: 14 points (5 G, 9 A)
Brayden Schenn: 10 points (3 G, 7 A)
Danny Briere: 6 points (4 G, 2 A)
Wayne Simmonds: (7 games) 7 points (4 G, 3 A)
Matt Read: 6 points (4 G, 2 A)
Ilya Bryzgalov: (8 games) 5-2-1, 2.63 GAA, .888 SV%, 1 SO

well of course not everyone is gene hart, but i mean pxp guy has two jobs:
1. describe the hockey game
2. get the names right
that being said, i still loved thorne. great voice. great score call. just would be nervous about him doing games 10 years later. |

My issue with JJ is that every time a Flyers hits the ice he'll say "no call" in a sort of bewildered voice. I'd just rather have him call the game, even with the home team bias, but without critiquing the refs.
As for Coatsey, he's the uncle that's always getting drunk at weddings. Some of the family fines him hilarious and the rest want him shunned. |

What is everyone's opinion on Jason Demers from San Jose. He is rumored to be available for a top 9 forward. He is a 24 year old right handed puck mover who had a bit of a ruff year last, but was pretty good before that. Probably could be had for someone like Read when everyone is healthy. |

emricks good, but thorne is just the man...
btw the embellishment by the pens last night ie.) james neal getting boarded by a 175 lb soaking wet sean coots, and brent sutter embellishing a high stick (no call) was purely pitiful. james neal is a rat and a coward |

I completely agree with you. At least McGuire's gush is right there in your face while Olcyzk's bias taints the broadcast. At least he seems to have stopped with his need to tell everyone he coached the Penguins. - mayorofangrytown
i'll take hughson or mark lee from CBC any day...and the whole broadcast for that matter |

Without a doubt. Flyers-Devils was a lot bigger than Pens-Flyers for awhile as well. That's why I refuse to call the Flyers-Pens rivalry the best in sports. That title still belongs to Yankees-Red Sox. Even if one or both of the teams suck, it's still heated. |

Doesn't matter. The refs were calling everything to control the game and most players embellish. Couturier has to know that. He's still learning though. |

Probably wouldn't move a top 9 forward right now. Read is too valuable. |
