Decided to read what the Pittsburgh paper had to say about the game.

Only player quoted in the story was Craig Adams, their captain nowhere to be found in the piece.

Also, Dan Bylsma seems to have no clue how to prepare for a game:

"We got too emotional in the game, too involved with the extracurriculars down the line," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said. "It took away from the game.

- Number23

Everything Bylsma said here was true.

"That was something they needed, something they got involved in and got energy going their way. We knew it was a tactic they were going to use.

What's this "they" business? The Flyers played their game and the Pens didn't like it and responded the way they always seem to respond. Bylsma is supposed to be able to control that response.

Without a doubt. Flyers-Devils was a lot bigger than Pens-Flyers for awhile as well. That's why I refuse to call the Flyers-Pens rivalry the best in sports. That title still belongs to Yankees-Red Sox. Even if one or both of the teams suck, it's still heated.

The only hitting is with bats on baseballs. Lame.

I saw a lot of hasek and he could do it even with a high school team around him. Wait... That's what he had in buffalo. Lol
- SMS4016

Hasek also had guys like Gary Galley, Alexei Zhitnik, Jay McKee, Richard Smehlik, Jason Woolley on defense. Not really highschoolers...

That had to be Olli Jokinen, right?
- johndewar

Yeah. That site's been around since about 2008-09.

Nope. Glass was a NCAA guy and is 5 years older than Simmer. I think that it got to the point where they were mutually worn out and agreed to just hold on until the linesman broke it up.

Despite his rip on Briere, Glass is a guy that's an honest player. He was in a fight a few games ago, and his jersey got caught around his head. The guy he was fighting held up until he was freed and Glass made sure to give him a thanks on twitter after the game.

- Jsaquella

In all honesty, any player the size of Briere, and I don't care what he's listed at having seen him close up he is no more than 5'8 and 165lbs or so, cannot survive in the NHL without playing dirty. If he doesn't keep his stick up and play that way, he would have never lasted a season, let alone a dozen!

Bad move to trade a #1 pick for a backup Goalie who chances are, isn't going to play much.

Briere's reputation for stickwork is well-deserved. But it also serves a purpose. As the smallest guy on the ice and a dangerous goal scorer, he's an inviting target. Since he'll never intimidate anyone physically, he's made some opponents fearful of his well-placed slashes, high-sticks and deliberate jabs. He doesn't even need to do it nearly as often as he used to, because he's gotten more space as a result of it.

BTW, Malkin is no slouch in the sneaky-dirty department either. He's pretty loose with the elbows and is no stranger to slew-footing. But that works for him as well, because it doesn't take very much extra room at all for him to embarrass a defender.

- bmeltzer

and Malkin can't use the excuse that he is the smallest guy on the ice either!!!

He swindled me into thinking he was a good announcer because of his non-partial and very good national broadcasts on ESPN2's NHL 2Night games. Then I heard some of his local stuff from Bahston.
- Flyskippy

Exactly. Edwards did a terrific job on national games.

My top guy these days is Dave Strader.

4th period reports:

Scary moment at Jets morning skate, as Zach Redmond's leg was cut. He was down on the ice for a while, and has been transported to hospital.

Is he as dirty as Bobby Clarke was? No. But he's definitely a chippy player.
- Jsaquella

Clarke was as dirty as they come, but he backed it up with his stellar play. Basically he was Dale Hunter with world class talent!!

It also helped to have Schultz, Dupont, Saleski, Kelly, and later Holmgren, Wilson, Bridgeman, Cochrane and Brown around to watch his back!

i 100% understand why people hate pierre but he's very entertaining to me.

on the other hand, i despise olcyzk.

i realize there's probably no logical reason to feel this way.

I miss Thorne and Clement, they were an awesome duo on ESPN

Not in Voorhees but both Boucher and Leighton did on-ice work today, which means in all likelihood that Bryzgalov is starting.

Hartnell skated today with the Phantoms, who are practicing for their game at the WFC tomorrow.

He is awesome. Randy Hahn and Drew Remenda in San Jose are the best local PBP team, IMO.

Fantasy: Chara

Realistically: Sidenberg

I'm probably going to guess that the Flyers won't make a big deal with the Bruins considering the fact that they'll see them in the playoffs in the future.

- KGBflyers10

If the Bruins are only looking for a 3rd line winger with a some offense in his game, they aren't giving up one of their top 5 defensemen. More likely they are offering a 2nd or 3rd depending on who the player they want is.

Is it wrong for me to have had mixed emotions on Sean Couturier last night? One really good partial breakaway and didn't really try to make a move. Plus it really looked like he gave up trying to win faceoffs. On the other hand, he successfully repeated shutting down and frustrating Malkin at even strength.
