The flyers always go back to their bad habits after playing the pens - Just5
They had the same bad habits last night. They just got away with them last night.

Exactly. Have to move on and correct the bad habits first before you can go back to them. That hasn't happened for the most part. |

I think it is a combination of the two. I could discuss some systems issues that I don't care for in the way the Flyers play. But regardless of that, players not picking up their coverage, gliding on the back check, leaving the zone early and cheating on breakouts. None of that is systems related. - MJL
A discussion of hockey systems would be over my head. I do understand the Devils trap from before the rule changes though, LOL. What you're talking about is coaching IMO. Have to put a rule in that no breaking out until team gets control. Even then it can't be a jail break. It's not basketball when 2 points is nothing. |

Without Schenn this defense would be awful. A very good trade for both teams IMO. I'd like to make the playoffs this year and make a run, but I'd also like to find out our young guys and needs to better complete the rebuilding process. - jstross
I'll see after three years who has the edge, if either, in the trade.
Right now, Luke turns the puck over a little too much for my liking. But he does have assets that I appreciate. |

His play has dropped off some the last handful of games. But some ups and downs are not unexpected.

I'm not doing cartwheels over his overall play, but like JVR, there are streches of excellence. The issue with both is consitancy IMO. Both have excellent upside. I agree, that like most trades we won't know for some time. |

It's not really that complicated. It's like anything if you take the time to learn about it. There's a lot of great stuff on the internet on systems play. I typically don't like to blame Coaches. But when the same stuff keeps happening over and over, the Coach has to take responsibility on that. But players have to take Coaching and correct their errors also. I also believe that the mindset and philosophy that the Coach has ingrained in the players is also somewhat of an issue.

I'd like to see him develop into a Jason Smith type of player - sound defensively, good leadership qualities.
Like Smith, Luke will never be an offensive force, or more than an average skater at best, and has the tools to be somebody that would be difficult to play against, but adds a little more bang to the buck than Jason did. |

Briere is no longer a $6.5 million player. Don't care how he finishes. If you can't trade him then he's gonzo. Even if they can't replace him I'd go with youth. Love Knuble and Feds, but it's time to move forward. - jstross
the younger guys seem to 'want' to play out there. they are the ones bringing the energy imo. |

I said earlier today they needed to start boucher. There was no need to roll bryzgalov out there. After last night it was wishing in one hand and poopting another for a win. The team just looked gassed period. That being said I think Saturday they bounce back. |

Huberdeau is one of my favorites coming out of juniors. Kid was on my wife's NHL 11 HUT team two years ago and we got to learn about him through the game. Just glad he's better looking than the goofy compressed image they used that year. |

Huberdeau is a beast. Scary talent level. When the Panthers move to Seattle in 5 years he'll be bigger than Nirvana and Starbucks |
