Good for him? He got a shot in camp, didn't he? If so, he didn't make it. Nothing to argue about there. - Cptmjl

Please watch Nino a bit before trading him for Franson...and I don't mean last year's fourth-line Nino. I mean this year's much faster, more developed version. Trust me...if you're going to trade a player that has the exact skill sets our top-six is missing (size, good hands around the net especially during those mad scrambles that we never score on), at least bring back a similar skill set in return. - UIF
Hence why I said, "I wouldn't do it just because I want to see what Nino can do". I agree and most Islander fans would but outside of us alot of people would'nt balk at it. Fans always put too much emphasis on potential which we see on here constantly. Donovan, DeHaan, even Ullstrom who can't find a consistent game yet. Some of these guys have potential, Christ some of the guys were Donovan on our second pairing and standing back and looking at our defensive line up like it was a Picasso. Again, with that said I would'nt do it but it's not that much of an over payment. |

No, if he didn't get a shot than no. I asked a simple question. You do realize when you make comments like that you are in fact being argumentitive. |

MSG+2. I have Fios so I don't know what the channel number is. - PeteM
does it come in in HD or not? i have fios as well.
btw, how is it that Ullstrom get benched again. He has better stats than Okposo despite less playing time and no time on PP.
also Keith Aucoin has not done anything in last 5-6 games not to mention this faceoff percentage is dropping fast.
KO or Aucoin should be getting benched.
Also last night after watching how Simmonds contributes for Flyers i want to see MARTIN GET A LOOK on top line with tavares and moulson. |

I thought his low stats were due to him playing small minutes on the 4th line? I agree that playing in the A isnt the end of the world, we kept Kadri down in the A for quite some time until he was ready. Not letting him try out (even if there is zero chance of making the team) would help boost his confidence though. Lets him know that management will continue to give him his shot at the big club. - Holy_Makinaw99
He was misplaced on the fourth line, but that was also due to the fact that he wasn't good enough for top six minutes. The only reason Nino was on the Isles last year was so his cap number would count towards the salary floor. He should never have been in the NHL last year, he should have stayed another year in juniors. He's an offensive guy, and needs to play with offensive players, not plugs and dead weight on the fourth line.
I don't see a problem with him not being invited to camp. They clearly didn't want him to play in the NHL this year. But, I also would have been fine with him getting a camp invite. Regardless, Nino being left in the "A" is the best decision they've made with him since they drafted him. |

Im not a NYI fan, so I dont follow your organization that closely, but I find it strange that he wasnt even invited to training camp when he was putting up solid numbers in the AHL through the lockout. Its one thing to not make the team, but not to get invited to camp? I would personally feel slighted. Does anyone know why this happened? - Holy_Makinaw99
Because the plan all along was to leave him down all year. They never intended to put him on the big team so they didnt bother. They only had a week to evaluate what they had and couldn't waste the time with someone who they knew wasnt going to be here. |

Nino isn't getting traded unless its as a package for an all-star caliber player. Nino will be flanking JT on the top line next year and after a full productive year in the "A", he'll deserve it, provided he gets his agent under control and tells the guy to shut up about his "development". |

There is a danger in letting true talents like Nino play too long in the AHL too. Players can often develop some pretty bad habits playing down there since the limited talent level allows them to make up for mistakes with their skill. This is why guys like Tambelini could look promising at the AHL level but everytime they came up they suddenly became pedestrian.
In most cases when you talk to kids who are used to playing in the AHL that made the jump to the NHL the overwhelming first response they'll tell you is the difference in speed is night and day. While I'm okay with Nino getting some time to work on assignment issues etc, as a top 6 forward, most of his development will need to happen at the NHL level.

I hear you. I'm guessing i fit that description? I don't mean that defensively. lol. I don't see much hoopla going on besides Nino and Strome. They are'nt locks. Mayfield sounds great, just what we need but these guys aren't even projected by most to be sure things, far from it outside Nino and Strome and Nino isn't a lock by any means for obvious reasons. I'm not as impressed by our prospects as most on here. I see potential but I'm not making make pretend line ups and thinking we are competing for the Stanley Cup next year |

It's not that much of an overpayment. I wouldn't do it just because I want to see what Nino can do but Nielsen(not Nelson, right?)for Bozak is more than fair he's actually a legitimate second line center and Franson for an unproven player with a bit of an attitude problem really isn't far fetched. With that said i still wouldn't do it. - Cptmjl
Sorry...is it Bozak's 18 goals, 47 points and -6 last season that make him a "legitimate second-line center," or his 15 goals, 32 points and -29 the year before? Frans Nielsen's put up nearly identical numbers in those two seasons, is better defensively, and has played with equal or less talent, and I think we all agree he's not a legitimate second-line center. I think people get stars in their eyes whenever it's anyone new without thinking about whether it's actually better.

For the Leafs, Bozak is our number 1 center, but that is purely based on the chemistry he has with Kessel. For some reason hes the only center we have that really gets Kessl's numbers going. He does have some decent intangibles, hes really good at faceoffs, hard worker, big body, and hes usually good for 40 pts a year. That being said, If we ever do find a true #1 center, Bozak will find himself on the third line preety quickly. Hes very versatile though which I like. We can stick him on any line and while he wont blow anyone away he usually does a decent job. |
