All this being said, any benefit from a new coach wasn't going to be seen in one day with next to zero practice time.

That alone should terrify us.

However, those situations were a bit different. They both asked for trades. It's different than just actively shopping guys. Once everyone knows a guy demanded a trade, it changes things.

Disagree, Peca situation should have never gotten to that!

Drury
Campbell
Briere
Vanek's contract

The list goes on, don't make excuses

Myers below the shoulders and Foligno hasnt shown anything consistantly yet.He might be another Gaustead.
- buffalo 1

NO way IMO. Foligno has much more skill and better hands. Is also a better skater. He will be a solid top 6 Power forward IMO

Very good point. Although his drafting and trades have been better, we need someone to come in with some balls and shake poop up
- sbroads24

We already have that in Ott.What we need is another Hodgson deal.

I still have no problem with Campbell not being here, even to this day.

Without the ability to win 55% of faceoffs. I wouldn't go that far, but the kid has not played very well this season up here.

Need s a second line thats scores consistantly and take the pressure off the first line. I dont think were that far off but it might cost more money then they have to spend.
- buffalo 1

they need guys they can put with Ennis so that he can get going more. He's done quite a bit considering who he's playing with

It's not that it doesn't have any talent, it's just that there's a huge drop off between the guys that have a lot of talent, and the rest of the the team.
- HonkFortheGoose

Yes. The drop off kills us.

He's a rookie. He will be good. Again we should be prepared for a rough 2 years. It's not getting much better for a while

We have some. Who would you list as talented? I'd probably say Vanek, and Ennis are extremely talented, Pommer and Hodgson are slightly above average, and Foligno and Ott are average. Everyone else is probably below average from a talent stand point. Kaleta brings things to the table but he's not a very talented hockey player. Gerbe is too small otherwise he'd probably be in the average to slightly above average range. Just my opinion on it.

Edit: Myers and Hoff on D also. Although the spotty defensive play tarnishes their talent a lot of the time.

- Pierceme69

I'd probably agree with this assessment. But the dropoff from Foligno and Ott to the rest of the guys is HUGE. That is where the problem lies.

I like the skills that Gerbe has, but I feel like his size is definitely holding him back at this point.

Penguins have Neal, Crosby and Malkin as talented forwards.

Cooke, Kunitz, Dupius, Kennedy... those guys are" talented"? No. It helps they are playing with talent, but they have pretty quality hockey IQ. Probably comes with playing with Malkin and Crosby.

Vanek is talented, but I would not say he has a high hockey IQ. Hodgson is talented and hes honestly one of the dumbest players on our team. He constantly makes plays that leave you shaking your head of introducing your palm to your face.

- theblueandgold

yeah, but just with neal, crosby and malkin theres more talent than the entire sabres team. you can work with high hockey iq role players when you have so much raw talent in 3 players.

sabres lack talent. whether you wanna call it hockey iq or raw skill, they simply dont have enough players that play well enough.

Yep another Hodgson. Id package Myers and maybe a number one to get one of the 2 big Centers that have been talked about lately.

Foligno is still finding his way I think. It doesn't help that Stafford is terrible. Foligno is at least crashing the net every game and he makes really good plays in the offensive zone to help keep the play going.

I'm not too worried about Foligno to be honest.

Foligno is high energy and gritty with talent, some games, then he makes stupid choices or tries to get fancy. His play has dropped off.

I'm not. Just stating that once a player asks for a trade it changes things. Neither situation should have gotten to that.
