by including downie, another #1 pick - isaiah520
who had lost his taste here in philly. he lasted how long in TB? And they got what in return for him when they traded him.. a rental d-man.
Now he is in his third city on his third team and is out injured. He would have made one hell of a Flyer though. Sure fire all-star. |

In Toronto, there's nobody pushing JvR for ice time. He's locked in on the 1st line, getting first unit PP action and playing almost 20 minutes a night. Here he was seeing 13-15 a night, playing on the 2nd PP and didn't always assert himself. - Jsaquella
Lupol should be back in about a week or so, He will push JVR probably down to the second line. I want to see how he preforms with out Kessel..... |

if there was no cap, it wouldn't matter any where near as much. we could just buy/trade our way out of most fixes. - isaiah520

after watching the Panther broadcasters mock the Flyers I realized that this organization is never going to win anything with Holmgren as GM. He made 2 good trades getting Timonen, Hartnell and Coburn, trades JVR for a turnover machine, trades his 2 best players for promise and signs a wacky goalie for 9 years. Homer's drafting strategy is questionable? He could have drafted Carlson, Markstrom and Hamilton. I think Bozo the clown could do a better job. - vejim
I'm sorry but I would make the Voracek/Couturier/Cousins for Carter trade every day of the week and as much as I LOVED Richards, I can't complain about Schenn/Simmonds and the pick that became Grossmann for Richards. Luke Schenn has had a few rough games but overall, I've been very pleased with his play. Does it suck losing JVR? Absolutely. but that was the price. this defense would be far worse without Schenn. Eminger....absolutely a bad trade. at least he (along with Downie of course) was turned into Carle. Homer has made bad deals but he had also made some very good ones. I don't have any issues taking Couturier over Hamilton. Its not like the Rangers taking Sanguinetti over Giroux. Couturier is a good young player with so much upside. |

I never agreed with trading Gagne. He should have been able to retire as a Flyer. - jmatchett
I'm meh on Gagne. I didn't like the trade, but have no issues with him being dealt. |

At the Flyers' prospect camp last July, I asked Laperriere about Cousins potentially being a winger in the NHL. He answered in depth, but it basically came down to saying that he's either going to have to have to improve his skating to be a winger or get a lot better defensively to be a center -- and the second is easier to accomplish.
Lappy also said that in his own career, he had to learn to make the transition from being an offensive-minded player in junior hockey and the IHL -- look up Lappy's pre-NHL production sometime -- to being a role player in the NHL. There are only so many players who can be scorers in the NHL, and the rest had better learn to do other things well in order to have a role on a third or fourth line.
Laperriere said that while he'd never want to limit Cousins or any other player by saying they can't overachieve and become a bonafide top-six in the NHL, the best route for a player like him to achieve an NHL career is by learning what it takes to stay in the lineup if you CAN'T score enough to play atop the lineup.
As a player who is a natural pest and agitator, Cousins' best NHL role is probably as just that; especially if he can add a little support offense.
That pretty much sums how the Flyers see Cousins. They seem him as a player who won't be a big point producer in the NHL -- doesn't matter if he leads the OHL in scoring -- and who is going to have work more on his defense and skating to have both a position and a defined role in the lineup.
Hopefully, Cousins exceeds all those expectations and keeps right on producing a lot of points as he moves up. But chances are that he'll either evolve into an NHL role player who plays full-time or else an AHL offensive guy whom most fans fail to understand why he's never the guy who gets a callup. - bmeltzer
Zack Boychuk?
I hope his newfound commitment to defense continues. He could be a solid third line type that is a pain in the ass to play against and brings speed and some offense. |

That trade ended up being Carter, Richards and Powe for Voracek, Couturier, Cousins, Simmonds, Schenn and Grossmann or something right? Great deal. |

I made the point last night, that with the Read news, coupled with a dreadful performance, the win over the Penguins couldn't even be enjoyed.
Bryzgalov has to start making some saves on breakaways. He looks helpless. Sure the team has to limit the number of turnovers and odd man rushes, but Bryzgalov has to start stopping a few. That's not too much to ask. - PLindbergh31
I didn't like Bryz getting the start. Yes, I know he is paid a lot of money to make the big save but lets be real.......he has played more minutes than any other goalie in a short span.....and in many of those games he was easily their best player under siege. last night reeked of Boosh needing to start. I don't care what anyone says....you get tired and when you are tired you are not sharp |

I would have given Boucher the start as well. A back to back vs. the worst team in the Conference. Bryz' workload has been very heavy so far. |

If I was Carlyle, I'd keep JvR right where he is. If Lupul does what he did here, it'll take him a few weeks to get back to form after his injury |

Poor Boychuk. They put him on a line with Malkin and Neal and he STILL doesn't produce. Hasn't played in the Penguins last 3 games after getting moved to the 4th line. |

I didnt have a problem with it to be honest. He can now rest until Monday.
He will have 3 days off as opposed to 2. |

Watched it a few times and I still cant make up my mind. I have a hard time believing a guy purposely throws out a knee on knee hit at that speed though. He could have just as easily been the one on the ice. |
