So every time there is a breakaway it has to result in a goal against? Cause that's what happens now. - PLindbergh31
That is not what is being said. Shore up the defensive issues that are allowing breakaways at an alarming rate, and that would go a long way towards solving that issue.

Absolutely. I agree with that point. But when there are breakaways, you would like to see the goaltender make a save every now and again.
homer didn't want to be locked into 2 NTC w/ guys whose play wasn't worthy of a decade long commitment. that's his way of acknowledging his own mistake. i have other issues w/ homer, but both orgs are better off as a result of those deals. some other deals, not so much. - isaiah520
I thought it was because one of them drank a beer once.

I'm really questioning signing Timonen for next year. Overpaying him isn't even the issue, he looks basically shot to me. - PLindbergh31
the back-to-backs are a killer for him, i bet. when mez comes back, they might want to consider backing off his ice time and if a plyoff spot is clinched, i would make him sit out here and there.
Admire Nik, but what the hell was he doing fighting the Ivy League Stache last night? Brave, but pretty dumb. - PLindbergh31
Good for Nick. Had no idea he could do that. Not that he fared well in the fight, but the notion that we would even drop the mitts at all.....
I was at the game and watched Parros drop the gloves and thought..."oh, wonder who he is fighting". Had no idea it was Grossmann until they actually squared off. I also wonder if Nick asked for the fight or not.

If this happens, it will be the last game of the season.
Funny I was just about to type the same thing! This is absolutely 100% correct. There will be defensive breakdowns, it's inevitable. As well as Bryz had been playing his inability to stop breakaways or partial ones, and penalty shots is somewhat troubling. I am glad the Flyers have only been in one shootout this year because he is terrible at those also. He has made some incredible saves this year and kept the team in many games when they couldn't find the back of the net, but breakaways are one on one hockey; shooter and goalie. Goalies have a distinct advantage over shooters in hockey in one on one situations, unlike soccer where most goalies don't have a prayer! Many times those breakaways could be game changing saves that Bryz isn't making. - aantny88
It is certainly true that every team will have defensive breakdowns. And it's the Goalies job to erase them. But having a high volume of those breakdowns, ups the odds of some of them getting buy the Goalie. Limit the chances and limit the breakdowns. And I'll bet that the Flyers become a much better team.
yep. the goalie has to bail out his team from time to time...can't be an automatic. - isaiah520
And Bryzgalov hasn't done that this year? He's done that more times then I could possibly recall. Bryzgalov hasn't played as well the last few games. But the focus is in the wrong place.
I hear you, but pick your battles. The game was 4-0 at that point? It was pretty much game over. What if Parros fractures his jaw, or concusses him or something? Like I said I give him credit for having the guts, just didn't think it was very wise.

Hahah I know man.. Hell, he did clip Parros good with that first one.. Had he followed that up it would have been a knockout no doubt. Freaking buckled his knees with it.

Agreed.
Laviolette deserves to be 2nd guessed for even starting Bryz. I think Bryz leads all goalies in minutes played. If there was a night off to give to Bryz, it would have been last night.

I think Grossmann did it to try to inject some emotion into the club. There's also a bit of a history between the two players. Last night was actually the second time he's fought Parros in his career.
You guys think that game may have been a self-fulfilling prophecy? Everything about it screamed trap game so maybe the Flyers got that in their heads and they were done before the puck even dropped.
