Really good analysis. My impression of the game is that Ottawa pounded pretty hard on the Rangers all night. I was comparing last night with last year's playoff series and it appeared to me the Rangers simply did not have any kind of a physical game.

Just landed in Montreal. Steve Eminger recalled from #CTWhale. Rick Nash will NOT join the team here for tomorrow night's game. - jimbro83
You used to be the king of the reverse prediction, we're going back a few years now. - B2B76
Yeh, I have lost my touch. But, honestly, I think the Rangers win tomorrow night, in an inspired road performance, when everyone thinks they'll lose. And Hank, gets the Bell Centre monkey off his back.
let me ask, If Nash is out long term, do people favor making a move to acquire more help to win now, i.e. trade more future youngters and draft picks.
or, do we back off, considering we already don't have our first rounder, stand pat and let it all play out
or, do we become, gulp, sellers? - jimbro83
i'd say let it all play out. realistically, they're going to be battling for that 5-8 spot. this year, it's all about getting in. and i think the only player they could get anything in return for would be gaborik. nobody is going to touch richards and nash seems to be hurt a lot worse than we all thought. would guys like stepan and del zotto really bring much in return with the way things are going for them right now? i know stepan has slightly improved, but come on.

Stepan defintely would. Turris fetched a highly touted defensive porspect and 2nd rounder after being a total bust in phoenix. Stepan could probably get the same thing. But then the rangers would be left with Richards, Boyle and Miller down the middle.

if this gets really out of hand and they go on some massive skid from now until the deadline, then maybe you shop him if you can get something in return similar to that Turris deal. right now, i'd much rather the rangers lock up hagelin and mcdonaugh longer term. another interesting question: should they shop staal? what would he bring in return?

Probably a very good return, but the rangers don't have someone to replace him either. So you could essentially be cutting of your nose to spite your face.
maybe package the two for a 20 goal scorer and a 3rd or 4th d-man? you'd have to find a team in the exact opposite position of the rangers though: stacked on offense, lagging on the blue line. again, this is all assuming they take a massive flop off the high dive between now and the deadline.

Trading defenseman at this point is not an option imo.
