And who would they even hire? Ruff is a good coach but he can probably use some time away. Ron Wilson? Ted Nolan would be my guy. Controversial but a great coach.
But Torts ain't getting fired anytime soon. - Pete V
There are coaches out there sometimes you just need right situation. Torts didn't invent hockey. Hitchcock, Julian and other quality coaches have been between jobs before. |

There is no life in this team. The PP still sucks. Nash being out is not the problem. Gabby was benched because he took a penalty. Torts is crushing this guy. A 40 goal scorer. The team has become stale. You can't fire the players, right? - DONMURDOCH14
I think Torts should be given more time, you obviously disagree. The point is debatable.
What is not debatable is that Torts will not be fired now. It won't happen. Don't get your hopes up.
Heck, they wouldn't even find a guy to hire. Would you agree to coach for a team with such little patience for the head coach? |

Idk they are under .500 and I read he had rift with coach at some point. Just sort of throwing hypotheticals out there. I look at struggling teams and see if there is a match. Both teams might need shake up. Maybe Boyle, Staal and pick? - Chris Erwin
I've got to figure they'd fire the coach first in Winnipeg. Byfuglien is a building block IMO there.
I get where you are coming from and can see them moving a D but probably someone like Ron Hainsey or Grant Clitsome who are both in the last year of their deals. |

So has it been confirmed that Mcdonagh has a concussion and Girardi has a busted ankle? - tomburton99
Nah all speculation, you think Torts would actually tell us if they were? |

I don't see it and I don't think it's warranted. To me he has enough equity to finish this season and get a start into next season. Hell, this team is still well within reach of a playoff spot. Crossing our fingers that the injuries are minor and we get most or all of our key players back this next week. No need to panic and call for Torts' head when we are all exasperated with a couple of poor performances and a start slower than we want (not necessarily what I expected though). - gkmkiller
They better start scoring and win some games...If not he'll be gone by the end of the week IMO. |

Come on now, talking crap months after your team was picking 3rd? We haven't picked higher than 10th in 8 years. Montreal has had two top-fives in the draft since then. - gkmkiller
I don't dislike the Rangers at all. That was in response to a couple sour comments directed my way. |

Attitude reflects leadership. The players attitude is directly related to its leadership. Torts must go - DONMURDOCH14
And last year the attitude was... what? Bad? Good but not a reflection of the coach? |

Yea I don't think so either. But this team is in real trouble if they don't get some of these key guys back soon - TPC
I agree brother. Didn't see the game tonight but couldn't imagine coming home to worse news. Literally, couldn't get much worse. |

I'd be afraid Nolan is too similar to Torts. If you're going to make a change then go get someone who will change things.
Just in case something weird did happen, what about Gernander? That's in essence what Pitt did with Bylsma. |

But Glen, its not just a few bad performances its 3 in a row now. How many convincing wins have they had? 1...Tampa maybe 2...Islanders They are doing nothing good. Not even close to good. They need a change because it looks like they've tuned Torts out. I don't blame them. I saw Stepan laughing on the bench near the end of the game. If I was Cally I'd be ripping him a new one. Leaders gotta lead. Now is the time.

There will never be a question in my mind that Torts is an excellent coach. I think, however, that guys like him come with an expiration date. I hope he hasn't reached that date yet.

If we fire Torts, I want a guy who will play all offense, no defense, win 7-5, Hank will have the best save% and worst GAA. Every game will be insane and fun. |

If McDonagh, Girardi, Del Zotto & Nash are out long term better start dangling Gaborik to recoup that first round pick they lost. This season is a goner if all are out for at length. |

Ya, I've seen the Rangers in brighter days.
That was really not a good game for you guys. I hope the injuries are not to serious. Can't believe Torts didn't play Gaborik in the third. That was a pretty gutsy move from Torts and hope Gab gets a clear message that he needs to start producing with or without Nash in the line up.
Glad we got the 2 pts

Short season, injuries will really hurt some teams but Torts MUST do something. Look at Ottawa, they keep on finding ways to win even though they have tons of key injuries. Looks like the NYR are missing chemistry and the coach isn't finding ways to get Richards and Gaborik going. Not sure how secure his job is but the pressure will keep building on him and the team.
Hopefully McD is back soon, Gallagher got a concussion and was out for a week, hopefully this is a short term thing with McD. Same with Girardi but it looked pretty bad on the replay, could be broken foot |

Tortorella is a good coach but we all know who gets the pink slip when a team has a disappointing season.
The Rangers are in the midst of one hell of a disappointing season. |

Gaborik generally responds well to Torts benching him, we will see how it goes this time.
For all the Torts hate, he has done a great job with Gaborik overall |

But it's also just 17 games after significant offseason changes and no training camp. I've always felt that Torts coached teams have developed chemistry beginning in training camp. I just think some of these guys are trying to find where they fit in and unfortunately the injuries haven't helped as players are having to shift roles to cover.
Everything we all liked about last year's team is a reflection of Tortorella and his handling of the team. I think he has more than earned the chance to get the ship righted. Give it time. Is it too early to call the Nash trade a failure? Of course and it's too early to fire Torts. |

Last year was...Last year. They played great with confidence. But something changed. Torts has all the same answers when they lose. We need to be better. What has he done to make it better? The players have tuned him out. I think they are tired of going from pillar to post for him and then getting called stupid and dumb in public. Not cool airing that stuff out in the media. How would it go over if one of the players called Torts out to the media? Fire Torts and save the team I love. |
