source?

eklund?

A team most experts saw 1st in the East, favorite to win the Cup, now sitting out of a playoffs spot! It's not only the loses, it's how they lost. Not impressive.

If you're Sather and they lose the next 3, you do nothing?
Injuries are not an excuse, see Ottawa. He'll have to move...

Short season, injuries will really hurt some teams but Torts MUST do something. Look at Ottawa, they keep on finding ways to win even though they have tons of key injuries. Looks like the NYR are missing chemistry and the coach isn't finding ways to get Richards and Gaborik going. Not sure how secure his job is but the pressure will keep building on him and the team.

It's just one of those season's for the Rangers. It looks like Murphy's Law for them this year.

I think Torts should be given more time, you obviously disagree. The point is debatable.

What is not debatable is that Torts will not be fired now. It won't happen. Don't get your hopes up.

Heck, they wouldn't even find a guy to hire. Would you agree to coach for a team with such little patience for the head coach?

- Rags2Riches

Two candidates and you have to assume there is some hot assistant or minor coach that idk. But any thoughts on mactavish or Carbonneau

There will never be a question in my mind that Torts is an excellent coach. I think, however, that guys like him come with an expiration date. I hope he hasn't reached that date yet.

Tortorella is a good coach but we all know who gets the pink slip when a team has a disappointing season.

The Rangers are in the midst of one hell of a disappointing season.

- MidnightMarauder

I just don't think you fire a coach that had the season he did last year in less than 1/2 a season. That would really be a knee jerk reaction.

Gotcha Rags. Wasn't really being to precise with the quote thing. Sorry if that came off wrong.
- Pete V

No... I should have realized it was your own point, not defending his.

Anyways, I never liked how Torts dealt with the fans/media, but was willing to forgive due to his success. Obviously things not going the right way now, I am started to be frustrated with him. He is easy to get annoyed at.

We will see how this season goes, but I don't think he get axed unless we get to a point where we need a huge run to make the playoffs. Figure 20 games left and 8 points out of 8th, or something like that.

We blame our coaching and GM for our problems but the main problem is Wang and Snow. Do you guys think maybe Sather is part to blame? maybe more so than Torts?

I want him to stay and I think he will. But this team appears destined to miss the playoffs this season. It is just a gut feeling and I hope I am wrong. Team toughness is nonexistent and their offense is worse than last year's and that is saying a lot.

Definitely things aren't going well and they need to get better but again, I think he deserves the season to get things right. We are one hot streak away from putting ourselves right back in the thick of the race in the East. And remember, Ottawa isn't exactly tearing it up (yes, they've won four in a row but three by one goal and two in SO) and have gotten superlative goaltending from Anderson. The Rnagers have to find a way and I think they will.

Sather has provided Torts with everything he wanted. This is all on Torts. IMO

Gaborik generally responds well to Torts benching him, we will see how it goes this time.

For all the Torts hate, he has done a great job with Gaborik overall

- Rags2Riches

You guys are playing the Jets next on Tuesday. Hope fully some injuries are going to be back and Gab gets in gear.
And practice that PP please... that was horrible tonight!

I know you guys don't want to hear this, but last year results have more bearing on how I feel about the team/coach than this year does.

I really don't have too much of an issue with anything Slats has done the last couple if years. Maybe would have held on to Prust and/or Fedetenko but that isn't a major complaint.

Yeah, cannot blame Sather for anything. He has done a great job since the summer of Redden, save some small errors when he tries to get an enforcer (Brashear, Rupp)

The team toughness and heart has me the most dissapointed. You don't need goons to be tough. No one seems to have each other's back. I don't like that at all.

Sather should have been gone years ago. But now they both should go. He has definitely let torts put his imprint on team Richards and Avery two prime examples. Not that Sather might not have went after Richards anyway but he might have been a little gun shy after Drury/Gonez

The PP has sucked for 3 years. No amount of practice is gonna fix it as long as Torts is here. IMO

Ok fair how about Staal plus pick for Byfuglien
- Chris Erwin

I wouldn't trade staal for Buff. His D is suspect - staal is a rock
On which to build. The team should not be dismantled just yet;
We've seen them really dominate tho they have been incredibly
Inconsistent and are really sucking right now. I think the pieces
Are there and they've shown that they can do it. If they are
Now tuning torts out maybe his # is up but he really made this
Team into a winner last year.

That is true, just frustrating since other teams seem to be handling the lockout/lack of training camp fine.

And I don't want to contradict myself but maybe his useful life of the coach of this team has expired. I just think the sample size is too small right now to make a call like that.

Well atleast management shows they want to win. What you guys are missing is a true number one center. Once you guys get that you will be a much better team. I like Gaborik and Nash was a great addition. However I don't think Richards was a smart signing.

I said this yesterday, if Torts has lost this team, he needs to go. If the players are tired of his crap, he needs to get canned.

For the record, I was against signing Richards for 8 years, but I never would have guesses he would blow in year 2
