And I don't want to contradict myself but maybe his useful life of the coach of this team has expired. I just think the sample size is too small right now to make a call like that.

It's a short season. Now is the time. The team has given up. It was glaringly obvious tonight. IMO

Things just aren't clicking, no blame to pass around. Sometimes that just happens without logical reasoning
- MidnightMarauder

This. Well, I do fault them for the completely incompetent PP but instead of whacking one of the coaches I think they should add to the staff and bring in someone else to run the PP.

I said this yesterday, if Torts has lost this team, he needs to go. If the players are tired of his crap, he needs to get canned.

Thats a pretty big IF

unless you have been in the locker room.

For the record, I was against signing Richards for 8 years, but I never would have guesses he would blow in year 2
- Rags2Riches

I also think he will get it together. That deal might be rough in years 6 - 9 but for now I think he'll get back to being the Richie we know.

You guys are playing the Jets next on Tuesday. Hope fully some injuries are going to be back and Gab gets in gear.
And practice that PP please... that was horrible tonight!

- Tripple_B9

Gee thanks, we don't know that ourselves.

He's always been an enigma.....look at what happened to him in tampa after he got his long term deal. Same is happening now.

You realize firing a coach is a long-term decision that should not be influenced by the shortness of the season.

I wouldn't trade staal for Buff. His D is suspect - staal is a rock
On which to build. The team should not be dismantled just yet;
We've seen them really dominate tho they have been incredibly
Inconsistent and are really sucking right now. I think the pieces
Are there and they've shown that they can do it. If they are
Now tuning torts out maybe his # is up but he really made this
Team into a winner last year.

- BobbySchmautz

I like Staal a lot I was just saying McDonough, Girardi and Staal all similar. Would like one of top three to have offensive game and or mean streak preferably both.

Not a big if at all, have you seen how this team has been playing lately? Don't think for second Slats won't fire his ass if he continues to lose.

The only two guys that have both are Weber and Chara. Girardi and Mcdonagh are both injured and now you wanna trade Staal, our best defensmen at the moment who isn't hurt but that has the flu? Does this make sense to anybody else?

Who would you hire? You wouldn't turn this team over mid season to some with no head coaching experience would you?

It can be but we have the players now. I don't want to waste another year probably missing the playoffs. Hank isnt getting younger and I really feel they have the horses to really good for a few more years. I just feel Torts has run his course here. I love the guy for what he's done to this point. Let's just ride it out and see what happens.

I hope they turn it around, I really do. Just make the playoffs. I still think this team is the best in the east. Just ride it out I guess.

I find it funny that Torts has earned no political capital with the fan base. The lesson I take from that is if you are going to act like an ahole you better be damn well sure you remain a successful ahole, because people won't put up with your act if you're not.

What was wrong with him after signing that deal in Tampa. He had 70 points in 82 games and yes, was a -19 but that was for a bad Tampa team. The year after he had 51 in 62 with Tampa before they traded him to Dallas where he finished with 11 in 12 games. Next season was injury plagued (48 in 56). Then in year four of deal he had 91 points. I'm not saying that's the model of consistency but it also isn't that different from his career arc.

They may point to Byslma, but I see another difference.

Bylsma is clearly a hockey genius, we saw it on 24/7 when he was contrasted Bruce "fukkity fukkk fukk" Boudreau. I can imagine the Pens realized that when they made the decision.

I dont think firing torts is gonna do anything at this point. Its still way to early for that. Besides that, i think the guy has earned at least the rest of this season. Its very frustrating but maybe they'll turn a corner once we get back healthy. Assuming none of these injuries are long term.

Im really tense about this but as bad as they are right now, a healthy squad could easily put together a five or six game win streak. One game at a time now boys, just breath.

Thats a good question. I guess I should have an answer for this. I dont. I'll research and see who is available. I dont think a no experience coach would work, though.

I would ride out this season, if it doesn't come together, fire him and start fresh next season with a new coach and a better shaped team.

Would rather win next year than this year anyways
