You need a blend of veterans and young players. Both Fedetneko and Knuble are good players to have. But if they're out of it, and they get a good deal for either, then you move them. But otherwise, no need to.
- MJL

I get the "need a blend" thing. But you have a blend with Kimo, Briere, Hartnell, Talbot, Coburn.

The only thing Knuble does better than McGinn at this point in his career is take dumb lazy penalties.

you obvi weren't listening to what he said mentioning the xtra 4 games in a monthly strtch. you minimize it because it doesn't comport to your ultra-rigid opinions. even joe thought he looked tired and needed a rest.
- isaiah520

His exact comments are quoted on CSN.philly.com. Easy to find and read. My problem isn't that Bryz is tired, and you think he needs a break. My problem is you're making the reach that the Coach doesn't trust the backup, so he's playing Bryzgalov more then he would normally. And trying to use that to reinforce your opinion that Leighton was a bad signing.

How does everyone feel about David Savard? I'm not sure what'd cost to get him at the moment but for those who are unfamiliar, he's a big, talented, right handed dman who's still very young (22).

Columbus has really soured on him lately and he's played just 3 games thus far. For a team that has Tyutin + Wiz locked up long term, Johnson, Nikitin, Ryan Murray in the wings and John Moore, Goloubef, Tim Erixon and even Nick Holden passing him on the depth chart, he could probably be had for very little.

Send a pick and an AHL player for him and keep us at 49 contracts. Could end up being a steal given his age and upside. I'd feel good about our defense the way our two two pairings are with a third pairing of Mez with one of Gus/Savard/Gervais/Foster/Lilja. That's some serious depth. Two guy's who consistantly play the best hockey see the ice.

Thoughts?

I agree that Knuble has taken too many penalties. But the other comments, Idon't agree with. I would have no problem with McGinn in the lineup over Knuble. But Knuble is still a good situational player.

you're right, there couldn't possibly be any correlation whatsoever

ugh, too much scotch last night

I'm not that concerned about the Flyers record and play so far. When you factor in their schedule with the injuries they have sustained, they are right about where they should be. As they move into March, they will have Hartnell and Mezaros back and their schedule eases up a lot which should be a huge benefit to guys like Bryz and Timonen.

That being said, I would still like to see them pick up a solid 4th line center who can kill penalties and win faceoffs, perhaps they could trade Fedotenko and a mid round pick to a team looking for depth on the wing to get this guy; and a better back-up goalie, who can be had for maybe a 3rd and Leighton or Boucher. Also one more solid defenseman wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't break the bank to get him.

I would be fine going into the playoffs with the following lines and D pairs:
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
Briere-Schenn-Simmonds
Read-Couturier-Knuble
Talbot-new center-Rinaldo
spares: McGinn, Harry Z, Sestito and Wellwood
D
Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Grossmann
Mezaros-Gus/Gervais/or new guy
spares: gus and/or Gervais, Foster, Lilja and Bourdon if he can get healthy
G
1. Bryz
2. New Backup
3. Leighton or Boucher

Thoughts?

- BiggE

My thoughts are that it's a bit presumptuous that the flyers make the playoffs.

I would prefer a top three pick. I don't think they have what takes to win the cup. I will sacrafice a shortened season for a top player they desperatly need.

Do you think that Laviolette had any input or was asked his opinion on signing Leighton to be the backup? Anyone can make any correlation they want using a little imagination.

It is manufactured, but he's not as focus as he had been over the first 15 games or so. Could be fatigue, but I don't think it's as huge an issue moving ahead, as the schedule starts to thin out for a bit here.
- Jsaquella

Oh, don't get me wrong, the guy said he's tired and he's visibly not as sharp as when the season started. I won't deny the obvious. But a couple CSN guys took an interview with Bryz as a chance to manufacture a 'dilemma', and I guess I'm just disappointed to see anybody actually took the bait.

Savard is an interesting prospect. They do have a bit of a glut there, not sure he'd be cheap, but they do have depth there.

Cool were going to have an argument all morning over a guy that's played one game and isn't likely to play again, for at least awhile. awesome.

The drama is manufactured. Prior to the "interview", it was assumed he was being over used, but it wasn't a dilemma.

As the schedule thins out, it will be less of an issue.

Same drama as with other players in the past. Take simple comments and make them into more then they are. Simple rule of thumb for me. Other then a few exceptions such as Bill Meltzer. I ignore 98% of what the Media reports or writes. Too many of them have an agenda. Or are uninformed from a distance.

Told ya, as soon as Read injury was announced that Hartnell's return time was changed to 7-10 hours.

Actually, there was a rumor he'd play in the Phantoms game last night as a rehab assignment.

I guess I'm just perturbed that after that disgrace of an interview, Panaccio was ready to reflect this particular question into a soundbite. Cue the knee jerk concern among the 'I called it' crowd. Maybe my internal 'ignore button' needs to be repaired.

The saddest thing was, it was the only relevant question that assclown Barkann asked him, while Mr Special Teams Holding Penalty giggled like a retard with a comic book behind him.

like jsaq said, he's an interesting guy and they do appear to have a little surplus on d comparable to our center situation. may be a match.

wow, harts is playing today!
