Interesting to say the least,
Simmonds, Schenn, 2nd rd pick used to acquire Grossmann
Vs
E. Kane, Burmistrov, 7th overall pick (possibly D. Hamilton) - Pat MaGroin
Why do you think they would have taken Hamilton? The pick likely would have been Couturier, since they passed over Hamilton for him at 8th overall. |

I dislike them because they have dealt the Flyers more heartbreak than other teams. |

Due to the carter trade to Columbus, flyers would have had the 7th and 8th overall pick in the draft. I'm just guessing hypothetically if Richards was traded to the Peg with the rumor deal that was out there. |

The whole thing is too funny, but this is something I found interesting:
"So the Sharks, who have 13 players under contract for a combined $53.7 million cap hit next season, honestly expect a premium in return for Dan Boyle, the defenseman who has two years remaining at $6.67 million per and all but certainly will become an amnesty buyout over the summer?
Perhaps general manager Doug Wilson can fill me in on the joke" - Marc D
Yes, Larry, Doug should give away an asset just so you can feel better |

with you on the Rangers, but ever since they got Crosby, the Pens have moved to #2 on my hate chart, with the Devils a close 3rd!

Apparently, Carter and Richards were being offered around the league. At the time, the Winnipeg paper reported that the deal fro Richards to be a Jet was Evander Kane, Alexander Burmistrov and the Jets 1st rounder.
At the time, that would have been the deal I'd have favored over getting Simmonds & Schenn...now, though, I'm very happy with what they got.
Kane's exquisitely skilled and Burmistrov has tons of potential, but Kane's got a lot of growing up to do and Burmistrov seems to be the kind of guy that wants to do it all himself. - Jsaquella
Hmmmm...
Kane, Burmistrov, and the 7th pick in the draft might have been one I couldn't pass up. That would have given the Flyers the 7th and 8th selection.
Cooter and Hamilton would've looked really nice. |

Misunderstood what you were saying. My bad.
The thing is, Winnipeg turned down the Flyers deal. It wasn't that they offered that, rather that was the Flyers asking price. They shot it down, which led to the deal with the Kings-and as Bill showed yesterday, the original asking price for Richards was Schenn, a lesser player(guessing Trevor Lewis) and a 1st, but the Kings offered Simmonds and a 2nd, rather than giving up the first rounder.
I'm guessing that had the Jets ended up trading Kane, it would have been a similar situation, where the Jets gave up Kane and Burmistrov, but a 2nd rounder, rather than the first. |

True but I think that only goes to show that flyers upper management is its own worst enemy getting owned by a small market rival. Sometimes a good beat down opens up close mindedness. |

They don't need a winger, they need at 4th line center who can kill penalties and more importantly, WIN FACEOFFS! Having to play Giroux over 26mins yesterday, because he is the only guy who can win a faceoff is ridiculous. Get a center and move Talbot to wing on your depth chart.
Re the D: I was very impressed with Gustafsson yesterday, if he keeps playing at this level, just pair him with Mezaros and I think the D will be ok. - BiggE
Yeah, I'm starting to feel a good 4th liner who can win draws is getting to be a vital need.
I was kicking around stuff on capgeek, and would love to see them look long and hard at Steckel from the LEafs, who is a UFA this summer. |

I couldn't envision Winny giving up both Kane and their 7th pick either. |

Yeah, but the Jets shot it down. I think they were intent on keeping that first rounder because up till that point they had not announced the team name.
They used the selection of Scheifele to announce that that were the Winnipeg Jets. |

I think most of us agree a #4 center with good faceoff capabilities would be ideal. However, just because G took the majority of FO's doesn't mean he had to play out the entire shift. Win (hopefully) the draw and get off the ice. It's done all the time.
Lava wanted him on the ice. |

Assuming a Briere buyout, the Flyers would have $12,137,619.
That would leave you 9 forwards, including Laughton and McGinn. 5 healthy defensemen, plus Pronger and Bryzgalov in goal.
After re-signing Rinaldo, Sestito and Gustafsson, assuming they sign for their Qualify Tenders, you'd have $10,044,119 in cap space to add a couple forwards and a back up goalie.
Using a compliance buyout on Briere, despite his playoff performances, makes a ton of sense. |

Just an observation.
When it was the Flyers turn to pick 8th, five centers were already taken before they selected Coots. |

Yes and no, its relatively easy to get right off when you win the draw, but very difficult when you lose, and also hard in the 2nd period when you have to make the long change.
No question G is going to get a ton of ice time, but if you have another good option on faceoffs, maybe he only needs to play 20-22 minutes rather than 24-26. It doesn't sound like much, but a 2 to 4 minutes less a game, could be huge come playoff time.

I actually meant it wouldn't cost much to trade for him now, but yeah that should be what it costs to sign him next year.

Do you guys see Laughton making the team next season?
If so he will likely be the 4th line center. |

I think he makes it, and could end up as the third center, especially if they trade a winger for a defenseman.
I wouldn't be amazed if they ended up with Giroux, Couturier as the top two centers and Schenn on a wing. |
