Just an observation.
When it was the Flyers turn to pick 8th, five centers were already taken before they selected Coots. - 77rams

Grossmann has really been a rock, after being a bit ineffective in the first couple games. He's turned into a great pick up by Holmgren. Generally smart positional play and his physical game has been great. - Jsaquella

I think he makes it, and could end up as the third center, especially if they trade a winger for a defenseman.
I wouldn't be amazed if they ended up with Giroux, Couturier as the top two centers and Schenn on a wing. - Jsaquella
I guess Schenn is the easiest to see on a wing. But I think his natural spot is center.
Giroux really seems to have gotten better in the last few weeks on faceoffs.
I don't know if he is just bearing down more or what, but maybe he could help Schenn and Couts. If they could get close to 50% it would help a lot. |

Yes and no, its relatively easy to get right off when you win the draw, but very difficult when you lose, and also hard in the 2nd period when you have to make the long change.
No question G is going to get a ton of ice time, but if you have another good option on faceoffs, maybe he only needs to play 20-22 minutes rather than 24-26. It doesn't sound like much, but a 2 to 4 minutes less a game, could be huge come playoff time. - BiggE
That was really an abnormality. G averages 21.30 minutes a night. |

I agree. My preference is Schenn at second line center |

Good point, but I would guess if you eliminate the 4 or 5 games that were blowouts, his average would be closer to 23 and I would still like to see that come down a minute or 2.

I hope they leave Schenn at center... He is so much more effective there (look at his points as of late) |

But to add some steam to your concern, G is second among forwards in the league when it come to average total time on the ice, behind only Kovalchuk's 25:46. |

I think G is #1 in the league in total face offs taken. Some of that is the number of games played.
He is taking close to 44% of all the face offs for the team. |

The real issue is having Briere play win as has been discussed many times. Even though he's not super on draws, he needs to play there. |

I don't feel as bad for G as I do for Timo. He's averaged 21:23 minutes per night. I don't know how the guy can get out of bed in the morning. |

Do you think they will use the buy out on Briere?
I have such mixed emotions on this.
On one hand I love Briere, his playoff scoring, and the clutch goals.
But financially and because of the mix of players it makes sense.
I guess I would be sad over all if he was bought out. |

He is a warrior.
Also stays in great shape.
But I'm sure the plan going in was to limit some of his tough minutes this year.
Then Mez got hurt, and they have been under 500 and are scrambling for every point.
Plus the D looks like a mess when he is out.
Lavi doesn't really have a choice right now. |

If you like that, you'll love Larry Brooks' column from today
http://www.nypost.com/p/s...ws_MNsfx6iWGOJVqBj4SYWbdN
Goes over the possibility of buying out Brad Richards and complains that rules were put in place to specifically hurt the Rangers.
Under different circumstances, if the cap were not decreasing, if there were no cap-recapture, if they hadn’t been forced to buy out Wade Redden because of a retroactive clause meant to punish the Rangers

Do you guys see Laughton making the team next season?
If so he will likely be the 4th line center. - Marc D
Next year I see it as a real possibility of happening. |

No, I can't see it really. When he's employed correctly, he's money in the bank and I don't think they can pare down the O depth any further really.. He's also a good leader on the team. It's kind of like the debate over Bryz.. in theory, it makes a sense to buy him out, but considering all aspects, you can't end up with Leighton and Boucher as your two tenders.. |

I think with G, Couts, Schenn, and maybe Laughton as the centers the Flyers are in good shape at center. Briere at wing, or even Schenn at wing is not optimal.
In goal it's Bryz and that's it.
So I think there is a better argument for the buyout in Danny's case.
Getting rid of Bryz unless they bring in another goalie makes no sense.
