kane seems like a threat every time he's out there...sometimes to his own team
if he puts it together...perennial all star. - isaiah520
Agreed. I think Bryaden Schenn can be a physical, 30 goal guy who is a solid two way player. |

How many leaders does a team need? I'd rather have the money spent in the up and coming rather than those in decline. If there was more than one dimension to his game fine, but it won't be the end of the world to lose him. - JoeRussomanno
interesting that the 2 most likely buyout candidates are at the opposite ends of the spectrum on your sh1t list |

Nothing much. I think that there's little point in adding him because his cap hit pushes them further into the LTIR exemption and he's not much of an improvement on what's on hand at this point of his career. When he has played, it hasn't been pretty. - Jsaquella
That sounds about right. Kind of what I expected. |

He has, but his production has been coming from both spots.
I prefer him at center, but he could end up playing wing. - Jsaquella
If they buyout Briere, I could see him sliding into the center position. |

Just looking at contracts and cap hits doesn't it make sense to buyout Briere and Bryzgalov?
The problem becomes who do they replace them with. However, that frees up a ton of cap space in the meantime to add pieces. |

Eventually, he is gone but very soon you lose Timonen for sure and say we buy out Briere.. That's a lot of experience going out the door. Maybe Briere goes and you replace him with Laughton but this team as currently constructed has struggled to score (with the exception of some blowouts), and we want to lose more scoring? Don't know if it adds up. That said tough decisions have to be made. I'd also say that as much as I like Mesz, if he can't stay healthy, can they eat his 4mil a year? Is Coburn worth what he makes? |

After a Briere buyout, there'd be an opening, but they may also trade a winger for defense help. |

Now take a look at the available goalies if you buyout Bryzgalov then ask that again. |

How about, just power forward? - JoeRussomanno
Simmonds is having a great year. And he's a very good player. If you project his current totals over an 82 game Season. You're looking at 33 goals and 38 assists for 71 points. Pretty damn good. When you look at Giroux, Hartnell, Voracek, Schenn, Read, and Simmonds. This team has plenty of offense. What it's lacking is the things that don't show up on the scoresheet. Team defense, puck management, and in some parts some system related issues, are keeping this team from being a top team right now. Some if it is just players getting better in a number of areas due to issues such as youth. And some of it is the Coaching and the philosophies that the Flyers play under. And some of it are some holes in the lineup, such as a puck mover on the back end.

If they retain Briere, they have $2.25mm in cap room and need to fill 3 forward, 1 defense and 1 goalie slots. - Jsaquella
Yeah, there are difficult decisions on the horizon. Do you think the team is ready to be turned over to Giroux and Cooter etc for the leadership? |

If you look at cap hits only, it makes sense to cut loose Briere and Bryz for sure.. It also prob made no sense to re sign Timo. |

I'm more concerned about the years left on Bryz deal. I'm not saying they should buy him out but the idea has to be thought about.
Only would be interested in Jimmy Howard or Mike Smith. Other option is to trade for another one. |

Well, buying out Briere clears a lot of cap room to add pieces. |

They don't have to buy him out this summer, they can wait till the following year which if they do it at all is what I'd prefer if at all. |

I don't see how it makes sense from a contract standpoint to buyout Bryzgalov.

Howard or Smith may well cost you that same as Bryz. Smith has a shady injury history, and IMO, Bryz is better than Howard. |

Personally, I am not a fan of signing a player to a contract over 5 years. |

I am not really a huge fan of his for the cost, but J-Bow looked damn good last night. |

Homer may be forced to do it as you say. Just don't think we will be a better team in the short term if he goes. |

Great, Rinaldo, jr - Jsaquella
We'll see, I think he'll probably move to wing when he's done in juniors but Cousins will not fight, he will push the envelope but not fight. |
