Okay, but does your personal opinion or my personal opinion factor in to whether it makes sense to buyout Bryzgalov? - MJL
If it allows them to make other moves and not hurt their future then yes.
Thats the decision the organization will have to make. They could keep him one more season and then make a decision. |

Homer may be forced to do it as you say. Just don't think we will be a better team in the short term if he goes. - Hextall271
That depends on what they use the Cap space for.

Howard or Smith may well cost you that same as Bryz. Smith has a shady injury history, and IMO, Bryz is better than Howard. - Jsaquella
I am not sold on Howard or Smith at all. I'll take my chances with Bryz thanks |

That doesn't make sense to me. Because one of the other moves would have to be getting another starter in net. Who's that going to be. There is only one factor in my opinion that needs to be considered in whether Bryzgalov is a buyout candidate or not. And that's his level of play. And right now, there is no reason to buyout Bryzgalov in my opinion.

Won't they have to use it to re sign current players? |

Don't know what the cost would be. I would think the contract length would be shorter also. - stveshdy
Possible, but not definite. Say there's bidding for Smith? Then they're stuck. The concern I have in Bryz is the recapture. |

interesting that the 2 most likely buyout candidates are at the opposite ends of the spectrum on your sh1t list - isaiah520
One has replacements waiting in the wings, the other not so much. I'd be all for buying out Bryzgalov if a suitable replacement was available. I think with him we have a good 5 years of solid goaltending. That should give the organization time to find another goalie |

I think I saw Jsaq saying they will have roughly 10 million after re-signing some guys.
Assuming they buy out Briere. Dont know if that is accurate, I'm not a cap guy.

We'll see, I think he'll probably move to wing when he's done in juniors but Cousins will not fight, he will push the envelope but not fight. - ob18

Thats fair enough. I wasn't saying they should do it. Just suggesting if that idea would be considered by the Flyers. |

Buying out Briere, and re-signing Rinaldo, Sestito and Gustafsson leaves them with a little over $10mm in cap space |

But they aren't player who are going to get big money. If they buyout Briere, it's to make a splash. Whether by trade or Free Agency.

Eventually, he is gone but very soon you lose Timonen for sure and say we buy out Briere.. That's a lot of experience going out the door. Maybe Briere goes and you replace him with Laughton but this team as currently constructed has struggled to score (with the exception of some blowouts), and we want to lose more scoring? Don't know if it adds up. That said tough decisions have to be made. I'd also say that as much as I like Mesz, if he can't stay healthy, can they eat his 4mil a year? Is Coburn worth what he makes? - Hextall271
They've been gradually finding consistent scoring from players that will make up the corps in years to come. Eventually these youngsters need to remove the training wheels. Briere and Timmonen were both youngsters at one point, they ended up taking steps in their careers. All things must come to an end. |

I've been really impressed with Rinaldo. Clearly he isn't one of the teams best players, but he might be one of the best at knowing his role and playing it well. I think he is a key player and piece on this team.
This year he has done a much better job at not taking stupid penalties and getting others to. |

I love Briere and he is clutch at playoff time but I don't think he's worth that cap hit. I would buy him out and go after Perry (if available). So I agree you go for the splash. No guarantee you land him but its worth the risk IMO. |

I'd let Sestito walk at this point to be honest. I like the guy but if you kind of know what you are getting with him.
10 million in cap space could be used to make a real hard run at Perry/Getzlaf or get some quality guys in FA. |

Why is everyone so certain Anaheim lets these players walk? They have quite a bit of cap space themselves. |

But he's young and can play a little...and also carries a minimum cap hit, around $600K |

I think Anaheim will do whatever it takes to sign Perry. Getzlaf is another story. |

What do you think the cost would be to land Ryan Whitney in a trade? The Oilers have no intention of bringing him back. He has injury issues and really hasn't been worth the price. He even has been a healthy scratch at times this year. I wouldn't go crazy but he's an interesting name to possible add at the deadline. - stveshdy
I dunno, there are folks that think he is physically done. |

Watched the Calgary and Minny game last night.
I am not really a huge fan of his for the cost, but J-Bow looked damn good last night. - flyer_nutter
J-Bo brings much of what we need in terms of puck moving, but he usually plays like a 2nd tier guy in many other aspects...and his cap hit is 6.7MM thru nxt yr. we've gone back and forth about him many times. |

I'd try to keep Getzlaff over Perry. Getzlaff is a big dominant center. Perry's an outstanding winger, but Getzlaff makes guys around him better. |
