I feel like this has been a problem for years. Ever since that boston series, I feel like the team developed a colelctive mind-set that there is a switch to turn on.
The only thing that really bugs me is a large chunk of these players were not even on that team in 2010, but it's still there. - the deaninator

I completely understand where that sentiment comes from, the franchise would be better off if they lose big then lose in the first round, no doubt. If they lose big and are well out of the POs they can hopefully trade Briere, Knuble and Feds while also collecting a good draft selection. It is a short season so the pain will be lessened.
However, I still refuse to root for them to lose. I will root for them to win and be fine with the exact opposite. What I do not want to see is a trade of our youth for a rental. - coffee junkie
if this happens, homer needs to get fired. that will set this already sub-standard team back another 3-5 years. |

I understand that they are young. I understand that at the end of the day they simply need more pieces.
The lack of hard work, which most of this season comes down to, pisses me off to no end. They may need a guy brought in to instill that attitude. It's weird because I think Lava is a coach that is tough on his players but maybe they need a new voice. Who knows. |

Great shots that went in off the post, and a PPG he had no chance on. Bryz is not why they lost. - Feanor
Agreed, he made some big saves ad kept them in the game late in the 3rd. Flyers need to score more then 2 goals. |

More than anything they are working hard.
Thats what the Leafs did tonight, outworked the Flyers in every way. Does anyone honestly believe the Leafs have more talent than the Flyers?
It comes down to hard work, and for the first time I am starting to look at coaching changes if this keeps up all season. They need someone who will instill a culture of hard work, and unfortunately it may cost the coach his job.
Sucks to say because I believe in a lot of what Lava preaches but a change may be needed here. It wouldnt if they would just (frank)ing wake up on their own. - flyer_nutter
there are times where i think it wouldn't make a difference who is coaching the team. kind of like how i feel about politics.
i could see lava not surviving the year. he's not getting enough out of the team.

Kimmo looked old and terrible on the first goal, and the second came from a blown line change. |

simple equation. poopty powerplay and scoring 2 goals or less, they lose virtually every time. happened again tonight. |

I believe that to, its why I say they are simply not good enough and need more/better pieces.
Some players are hard working to begin with, and some are streaky. The consistent players, are what make the top teams what they are.
Too many players on the team that you have no idea whether they will show up or not. I hope in time the kids get it, but a lot of players have that to begin with.
Edit: On the Flyers who can you honestly say will more than likely bring a good hard working attitude every night? Its a pretty short list imo lead by Grossman, Simmonds, Hartnell, Read, Giroux and only recently Brayden Schenn along with Voracek. |

Let me just say that any smart player in front would have peeled off toward the circle. Could have been a 2-0 down in front of Scrivens.
On that sequence, however, the Sequoia was planted in front of the net. Natually- as all sequoias do- it stayed there.
What a dumb(frank) - Giroux_Is_God
Hahaha! Lmao! Other guys on the ice were probally thinking get the (frank) out of the way!!! |

I completely agree. Pronger was that guy, too.
I think they need a new coach at this point. It's getting more obvious his words are falling on deaf ears at this point. He doesn't use his personel properly throughout games, and they can't keep winning every other game, and losing with such lack of effort. |

Yes, because a 35 year old past his prime is what they need.
Tim should be hired somewhere, just to be fired for that stupid idea. |

Know what the thing is though? Stevens got fired imo largely because the team had a consistent style of win one, and lose one.

I honestly don't see what harm there is in making a change. The trouble is, I doubt we'd see a ton of positive benefit, either.
Giroux is finally starting to play better, and Bryaden Schenn and Jake Voracek are carrying the team offensively.
Where are the veterans? Timonen is obviously dealing with an injury. Briere's put up some points, but he's not playing especially well. Coburn's been a mess all season long. Talbot has been good on the PK, but at 5 on 5 he's been useless.
That's the guys that need to be stabilizing things for the kids.

it was very similar. and this team seems to be playing defense worse than when stevens was the coach. and i hated him.
only problem is i hate terry murray even more. |

that's my biggest issue - the veterans aren't contributing enough. i don't think a coaching change will make any difference. |
