lots of offense-first forwards + slow-footed d corps = giving up your own blue way too easily.
edit: in other words, i agree with the sentiment, but i think the issue is more allowing zone entry too easily than it is trouble clearing the zone per se. maybe that seems like splitting hairs, but the flyers don't force the opposition to chip and chase nearly enough. - OrangeBlack27
Sure looked like the D was giving up the blue line way too easy tonight. Haven't noticed it as much in other games. My guess is that comes from not having confidence they are going to get the support they need if they stand up at the blue line. The natural tendency of d-men is to back in more when they feel like they're out there on an island and not getting any help. Especially when they know they lack the speed to turn and skate with top end forwards.
For them to feel like they can hold the blue line they have to know the forwards will help them out. Pretty sure none of them feel that way now. |

Yes. They are getting zero scoring from the third line. We basically have two fourth lines at this point. Couturier and Talbot have to score at least a little bit.
And McGinn has looked like the rookie he is instead of the surprise top line guy he looked like for a week or so after his call up. Still playing with energy, but his mistakes are starting to outnumber his good plays. At least they did tonight. - BringBack25
Fairly confident if you give Couturier even remotely decent wingers, he'd put up more points. I love Max, but he hasn't given you much outside the PK. Only 18 SOG in 20 games coming into tonight. Yikes. |

Was being sarcastic... Meaning if ducks don't resign perry we won't get him anyways. We would get screwed and see perry in ny,nj, or Pitt. I'd live him with g. Would take perry over getzlaf any day. I agree we don't need another center. - SMS4016[/img]
Yah sorry if I snapped a bit there been on a work call for what feels like 50000 hours..
I wouldn;t mind Getzlaf, who would..
I just think Perry is a better fit for our needs..
I think Shea Weber is an even better fit. |

simmonds is a great weapon on the power play, but i think he gets a free pass for his defensive iniquities because he hits and fights. flyers are routinely outchanced when he's on the ice. though, he's spent most of his time here with briere at evens, whose negative affect in that area cannot be understated. - OrangeBlack27
yes, Simmonds is average at best defensively. He brings a lot to the team, and plays a vital role. But that role is not defense. |

That they were. The Flyers have become a VERY sloppy and inconsistent team.
I honestly love Lavy. But it might be time for a change. - FlyerGuy
Without a doubt, Homer is looking at and considering everything. And Snider is thinking about a new GM. One thing I appreciate about the Flyers is they are not passive when poop goes bad. (Things aren't that bad, but I wouldn't be against a smart tweak or 2 to try to get into the playoffs...) |

Agreed. Unfortunately we are fresh out of that type of winger. Need Read back in a big way. |

yeah, probably ... but all things considered I can't blame the guy much for what's gone wrong so far this year. |

100%. your d can't stand up at the blue line if they don't have the backside pressure from the forwards. |

I'm going to stay on board and recommend no drastic trades. Future, Future, Future, but in the mean time I;m seriously looking at Lavy. Maybe he should give his timeout speech just before the game starts. I realize these are professionals, but if they act like children treat them like children 0-0 instead of 2-0. |

Even with a totally healthy lineup, they're still missing a top-9 winger. |

No offense taken... I'd just like to see what g could do With a sniper on that rw. Kessel gets a few inches BAM it's in the net. God I wish we had that |

Better yet the players should set that timeout speech for their alarm clocks to wake up to |

he's probably looking at around 5/yr, i'd guess. they also need to re-sign tuukka so it could be toight with the cap going down, but chiarelli is a damned good GM. |

seriously...built a damn good team up there, those bastards. i think perry will get out of hand if he hits the market, i'd love to see the flyers wind up with horton somehow |

lot of good options on wing. perry to horton and clarkson to clowe, then guys like stalberg and macarthur, who aren't quite as sexy, but are still very good two-way wingers who you might be able to get for a good bargain due to the great supply. |

think he gets lost in CHI due to their embarrassment of riches at fwd. he'd put up more points with greater opportunity. |

He has done just that in stretches for the 'Hawks when they had injuries. I remember I picked him up off waivers on my fantasy team and he went on a three week tear until they got healthy and moved him down the lineup again. |

Doubtful. The Flyers have done well under Holmgren. This team needs to keep building for the future. The offseason wasn't very good. They lost more quality players than they brought in. It happens. Keep the picks and fill the holes in the offseason. |
