I believe that Darcy's biggest problem is not understanding the idea of addition by subtraction...
If it is true that Regehr is a locker room cancer, move him out. There are still enough D-men on this roster, and in Rochester, to not have to get someone back in return to replace him.
Same for Stafford...while I'd like to get something in return, we may already have players in the system ready to fill that slot, like Grigo.
Darcy's need to always "win" a trade is part of the problem here. He clearly lacks understanding that "winning" may not always mean getting a "better" player back. - GoinFiveHole
He got rid of Roy (a 70 point producer) and got Ott. That was everyones descrition of addition by subtraction.

At this point i think Buffalo punts this season.. you move what you can at the deadline for picks and prospects.. If you can't move them you keep them here till the end of the season to help the team lose. Get the top pick, pick Drouin and look forward to next season.
Oh and you do all of that with a GM not named Darcy |

I think this team will be lucky to win 15 games this season.. we are already at a point of no return and the trade deadline isn't even until April.
I don't think we see any big trades happen until closer to the deadline in order to drive up the price on guys like Pommer, Vanek, Miller, Stafford, Sekera, or maybe even Myers...
I guess I could see something small before then.
If Darcy continues to make small trades for improvement instead of trades for the future.. I think we will continue to circle the toilet for years to come until he is Fired.
I am all for letting the kids play to gain experience... If we can flip Vanek for another 1st rounder this year.. I would take it... to resign Vanek who is already at 7+M per season would be ridiculous... Miller is going to leave for the west coast any way so I would trade him for a youth goalie. Pommer and Myers are the guys I want to stay and build around. - JVince11
Ok, let's try an intelligent discussion. Why would you want to keep Pommer? He is probably one of the few that could fetch a decent return if you did trade him. I also think he is one of those guys that Lindy and Darcy just love, because he won't rock the boat. Sometimes you need a captain that isn't afraid to rock the boat to get the team moving. Pommer does absolutely nothing to lead this team, at least that I can see. He would be the first one I would attempt to trade to try and bring in some assets. |

What do you call the Hodgson trade? I call it a big trade to help the future of this franchise at the Center position. - RynoBull
I do agree with you there... that was one of Darcy's trades that I really liked... recently he has made a few good little deals...
I am just not sold on Hodgson being a 1C because he lacks defense right now... |

Roy was merely one move...
The problem is that this team is more than just one move away... |

I hear you on every thing you just said... I really do... I think that Pommer is not a Captain.. but he is a very good veteran to have around.. A lot of the heat against pommer is that he is not a good captain.. well lets take that out of the equation for a second... he is an all around player.. he is a PK'er.. and he can put up 60+ points every season... He doesn't get hurt often.. he doesn't complain or make waves in the media... |

Exactly. And a lot of times teams will play to the personality of their captain and leader. That is why they are so soft and can't handle adversity. His ho-hum "we'll get them the next time" attitude is a joke. Ruff always used the term "players have to play out of character". When have you ever seen Pommer do that? |

i would worry about center depth that is made up of ennis and hodge.. both not good defensively and both kind of soft |

Vanek is gone my friend...
what do you honestly see being the outcome of his next contract? You think he will take a pay cut to stay in Buffalo? No. Can you give him a raise from his 7.1M? No.
He is hot/cold and inconsistent.. I like what he does.. but he is not a piece that the future of this team is built around for the money that he would require...

Not ever winning a championship in either major sport is part of the reason people are irrational here and want to place blame on everyone and everything. The patience has worn thin in this city - sbroads24

unless you get an ROR type, you need to keep Ennis as 2C |

What would stripping the captaincy do to him? That may be a slippery slope. |

that is my biggest problem about him.. he would be fine as a character player but for him to be your leader that is not good.. I would like to see a dustin brown or backes type of captain. |

Yes, obviously you would need a center to replace him, I was just stating that he is not untouchable by any means. |

I am sure I will be burned for saying this... but I really hope that we do not bid on Getzlaf... and instead wait for Lecavalier to get bought out... I can't see TBL keeping him making that much money for anohter 7 years to be on their 2nd line. Vinny didn't decline until he was taken off the 1st line and was stuck playing with guys like Malone, Prospal, and Downie...
He is captain material... he is huge.. he is aggressive and physical.. he has close to 100 checks every year.. he fights for his team.. |

I think Grigo is our 2C of the future and Ennis either is going to wing or is traded. |

true... that is a two way street... there is no one else on this team that I would rather have the C on that make sense right now. |
