Nope. It's actually a valid point. People want to tout Bishop and Bernier, while ignoring what Bryzgalov has done over his career.
The Flyers got further with guys like Esche, Leighton and Boucher because they played far more sound team defense than they are playing in front of Bryzgalov. - Jsaquella

Not arguing that either, just pointing out the constant need for something to point a finger at and think its so easy to fix.
$5mm is a fairly significant deal, only $667K less in cap hit than Bryzgalov.
He's also not playing this year, so the sole reason his deal was acquired was to stay above the floor, which was your question. If you want to change the question after it's been answered, then kindly take a second to answer the question I asked you. - Jsaquella
Right because 1 yr at $5M is a big contract. And it is relevant to Bryz's 8 yr $41M remaining contract. I specifically asked for a BIG CONTRACT not a big cap hit. BIG difference...
Bernier has 52 games of NHL experience and has never been a full time starter. Yes, he is highly regarded, but still very unproven. The reported asking price is a 1st rounder plus.
So they buy out Bryzgalov, trade the first rounder that might be in the top 5, and get Bernier. What happens if he turns out to be Brian Boucher? In the summer of 2000, everyone was so sure that we finally had the next Pelle or Hexy.
It's definitely a gamble, not that I'm against it, but you'd need to add Bernier and a solid vet to ride with him, in case he falters.

I loved it when vader would force choke those annoying imperial officers. just like I love watching our friend pick apart a lot of silly arguments. Not that I think everyone he argues with is wrong either.

And I specifically asked you how you'd replace Bryzgalov. Since you can't even attempt to answer that simple question, it's obvious you're not worth my time or attention
"It also was JVR's bad luck to be raised in a dysfunctional dressing room with a petty captain (Richards), a bully veteran (Pronger) and a vapid, pretty-boy sniper (Carter)."

Well, not too bummed I missed last night's game. Damn they need to get the half-assed play out of their game plan. They've been doing this crap since Richards was captain. Somehow I am optimistic that they can get their act together and squeak into the postseason. I don't know why, but I just feel like they can.
Holmer said Mez is 7-10 days out, which really means he'll be playing tomorrow or Saturday.
They have beatable teams coming up on their sched. If they can get their 60 minute act together I can easily see them winning their next 4 against Wash., banged up Ottawa, really banged up NYR, and the Malkin-less Pens. I'll go so far as to say they SHOULD win all those, if they play hard for 60 (and barring any more major injuries) in all of them. Boston in Boston will be a challenge but damn, they shoulod be able to make some hay over the next few if they can give 100%.

Obviously you dont live in my fantasy world....Package Briere/Timmo to Boston for their first... then flip that .....

I didn't because others have already answered with Bernier...
SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: His reflexes are first-rate and cat-like. Plays with supreme confidence when tending goal. Can steal a game all on his own, and is also capable of shaking off bad goals.
Flaws: Needs to play with more focus, so as to diminish the number of bad goals allowed. Can get into slumps where he starts fighting the puck. Lacks consistency, overall.
Career Potential: Talented goaltender with good upside.
How much would you pay to extricate him from LA?
How much do you think LA would ask?
Edit: Now add that he's 24, inexperienced, and would be playing in not-so-goalie-friendly Philly.
Edit 2: I like Bernier. Wouldn't mind at all having him on the team, but not brought in to be the starter. He still needs time to learn and develop.
