An overpaid, smallish, aging center with a NMC.

Sure. He's tradeable.

- bradleyc4

Maybe he will just retire after this year and we don't have to buy him out lol

The power play stinks.
They get out worked far too often for far too long.
Defensive lapses leave Bryz hanging in the breeze.

- Scoob

he has to be near perfect every game. while playing well overall this season, and being their best payer, he's not been as sharp these last few games. he has been the last of their problems - in fact - he hasn't been a problem at all.

Due to their cap hits

Bryz
Briere
Mez

all worthy to buy out.
I know Mez is hurt and he will be a welcome addition when he is healthy. I'm speaking strictly due to their cap hit.

- phi1671

Mesz is a good top 4 dman when healthy. He'd have good value these days if he was healthy. Erkine's getting $2 mill a year now remember.

I think it'd be extremely unwise to buy out a defenseman. We won't even talk about Bryz because if Homer buys him out I'll flip some major poop

The special teams were a huge issue early in the season, both the PP, and the PK currently both sit in the top 10 in the NHL.
- PLindbergh31

Yeah, well, where was it last night? Too inconsistent.

Just need to find the playoff bound team that needs a practically invisible little ghost during the regular season.

Yep. Not intentionally, but they're really (frank)ing him over.

The PK was 4-4, and the PP was 1-6, not great, but could be worse. As others stated the second PP unit generates next to nothing.

Does anyone think Bryzgalov has played himself out of a buyout? IMO, it should still be on the table the next two offseasons regardless.
- phillydentist

I think that given the team's play and terrible inconsistency, he has kind of played himself back into good the good books, despite his numbers appearing bad. Last night, the Kessel shot could have been stopped, but an inch wider and it misses the net entirely. He's not been the problem, that's for sure.

I've been saying that second unit looked anemic since game #3. They are just a cataclysm

1. With who in goal?
2. They're out of sync because, quite frankly, they're (frank)ing him over. With the recent exception of JV, he's the only one who has come to play on a consistent basis this year. He gets worked really hard every game.

- Scoob

1. Pick up a UFA goalie of the $10M/3 yr variety.
2. The days of Bryzgalov being the team's best player and most consistent are over. He has been average or spotty for at least the last 15 games.

If they want to use the buyout do they have to use it before the start of next season?

What's scary is his numbers right now are significantly worse than last year, save % and GAA. It's scary because he's played better, the team defense has gotten worse.

I'd like to know why they waited until the final 5 minutes to start playing hard..

If they'd have played the whole game like that, it would have ended a lot differently.

if you are going to bank on scoring more than one PP goal a game, you are going to lose a ton of games.

The play at ES is what has to improve.

It's strange the league wants a faster game and calls everything but now it's sort of clutchy and grabby again. A lot of subtle interference and stick infractions uncalled. At least they were consistent for the most part sans the Talbot stick lift, I mean 'hooking' call that led to TO's 2nd goal.

I know, which is why it's important to take into context his play and numbers, and how they're not entirely correlated or truly reflective of his play. He has been NOTICEABLY better. Our team just sucks balls right now

He was picking up the team early on and now the team can't pick him up. Tough job for Bryz.

Does anyone else feel we're trying to squeeze too much out of Couturier right now...? As in, he's not ready for the role and production we projected of him for this season? He seems too weak on the puck at times and doesn't seem to gel like he was last year... Leading me to believe it's the increased responsibility we're trying to get out of him.

an inch lower and giroux's short handed shot ties the game. instead, it hits the bar, skitters through, the leafs go the other way and make it 3-1. the game is often one of inches, and the difference between winning and losing.
