couple of nits
I think they have plenty of toughness with the Schenns, Simmonds, Grossman, Rinaldo.
No real heavyweight but the game is going away from that role.
Also Bryz actually does well with lots of work, but even that has its limits... and I think I agree that he seems tired. - Marc D
I think there's still room for each team to have at least 1 heavyweight because when they don't the other team can impose physical intimidation at will on the other team and it really affects the energy of the game for said team. The Montreal Canadians seem to fare better against teams where physicality isn't applicable but whenever they run into a team that can run over em physically, they usually suffer greatly.
I don't think your team is lacking team toughness but it is lacking a heavyweight. Habs have improved with Prust and Moens but honestly a team like Boston or Toronto can still man handle them quite easily.
Personally I find our offensive guys are playing a lot more fearless this year than in years past..... |

I think I subconsciously forget about him on purpose. Got into a debate with someone not too long ago about how the FLyers haven't won a cup in forever because the front office cant blah blah blah. Anyway I had to bring up Pelle because I really believe he was lock to put us over the top. Hell we squeezed a vezina out of hextall in 87 imagine what would have been with pelle. Anyway it is painful on so many levels personal and a sports one because of how senseless and tragic that was. THat wound will never heal. - JoeRussomanno
It was a tragic day for everyone. Flyers organization has never really recovered. How do you recover when so many what might have been scenarios exist. The day they win the Cup, it will be behind them. I know you can't say they definitely would have won a Cup with Pelle, but I believe the consensus among most is that they would have. |

Yes, yes, you've made this abundantly clear, Mr. 5. |

Meh. It was, at best, a questionable signing and a stint that had almost zero impact on the team. - Jsaquella
Pretty much. Just a waste of a contract slot for 3 years was about the biggest effect. |

I'd really hate to make a big splash for him and he becomes Brian Boucher. Rather the flyers use Bryz's contract to tgeir advantage and develop their own talent during that time. - JoeRussomanno
I speed read and well, this one threw me. I had to go back and do a double take to see if this was a sneaky tiger reference. |

That about sums him up.
First time I heard of Nodl was at a game during the 2006-07 Year From Hell. They were playing the Islanders (I believe they were shutout 3 or 4 to nothing) and during one of the intermissions they did a prospect profile on him. |

The problem is, unless it's a heavyweight that can ply a regular shift, the Kaletas of the world will still take runs at stars. |

they all drank and drove in those days, hell we all drank and drove...but he loved to drive at high speeds - vejim
On a funnier note, Guy Lafleur "fell asleep at the wheel" and drove into a pole, which almost decapitated him (it cut his ear).
My buddy and I must have chuckled at this story for 25 years - can you imagine being a Quebec cop who comes upon this accident, and you peek inside the car, and Guy Lafleur is pissed behind the wheel?
No way in hell you charge him. No way in hell. It's your job to get him to the hospital, get him treated, and get him home to bed before anyone starts asking questions (although there is no way the Quebec media would have asked questions). |

I've actually heard that story, through non d-bags. - Jsaquella
Yep. I've heard it repeatedly from different people including a team mate who had heard it second hand and was repeating the story over lunch at the Cherry Hill Mall before a signing at the adjacent table. |

Okay, so don't shoot the messenger on this one, but you asked, so I'll tell you what I've heard.
A few years ago, a certain d-bag Toronto sports writer (not naming names, but you have all heard of him) wrote something in his column to the effect of "The Flyers would love to retire his number, but they don't feel right honouring a guy who died drinking and driving. But the team knows the real story."
I had no idea what he was writing about, but I had a friend who worked with this cetain d-bag writer, so I asked my friend to get clarification.
According to this d-bag writer (again, don't shoot the messenger) Lindberg used to drive home drunk a lot. But the Flyers (and remember: it was a different time) used to think it was hilarious, and never worried because Lindberg had such fantastic reflexes, being drunk behind the wheel wasn't a problem.
On the night of the accident, Pelle was at the wheel, and was driving at a fast rate. He had two passengers - a male and a female, and the female was terrified. So terrified that she grabbed the keys and turned off the engine, not knowing that it would lock the steering column.
So "the real story" is that "it wasn't really Pelle's fault - just a horrible accident."
I have no idea if it is true or not, but it does come from a pretty good (albeit dbag) source. - Atomic Wedgie
I was as much a Pelle fan and was just as upset as the next guy hearing that he had died and how he died.
Regardless of whether or not that story is true, the facts remain (as far as I know) that he had a few beverages and was driving a powerfully built car well over the speed limit. An unquestionable invitation for disaster.
And yes, it was Pelle's fault. It was beyond reckless. |

I don't think that team was ready to win that series anyway. By 87? yea for sure but they were still green that year and kinda played over their heads. |

Don't worry the flyers will trade their 2nd for Colton Orr to replace him. He scored a beast of a goal against us last time

Not to continue with the morbid theme, but what did the Flyers do to honour Dmitri Tertyshny? Is his number retired? |

It really is stunning how badly that 1987 team was banged up. I do think in 1986, though, they would have won if Lindbergh had not been in the accident. They were firing on all cylinders, had the best goalie in the NHL and Edmonton wasn't in the SCF...not that the Flames were pushovers, though |
