I'm loving seeing people start to see bryz is an average goalie. Like I've said many times, bryz at his absolute best is slightly better than average, which is fine on a mature experienced team but on a young core team and with that albatross contract he has to be bought out or traded. Briere is definitely Getting bought out or traded. He's useless on the wing and only stunts development of our younger players. Think he is only owed like 5 mil next 2 years in Actual salary - SMS4016
No, Bryz at his absolute best is a 249:43 minute shutout streak. |

if the puck pressure issue Bill cited is such a recurring theme, then part of what is going on involves coaching... |

Didn't Boucher once have 5 consecutive shutouts? |
|

And if you get rid of Bryz now then all you're doing is adding another hole.
Seriously, where are you going to get another #1 goaltender? I would love an answer for this. A legitimate answer. Don't throw out Jose Theodore for God's sake. - KGBflyers10
Were not cup ready with young core so either go with a vet for a few years and let core develope while addressing other key needs or trade for a young up and coming goalie with high Potential with some experience such as bishop or bernier and let them grow with the core |

Yup. Don't look at his numbers and play not and judge... It's not fair at all, the TEAM SUCKS! He CAN play, but no goalie can be expected to win and steal every game with the breakdowns we've had this season in every game. |

As much as I like Lavy and some of the great things he has done here, I wonder sometimes if his "system" just isn't suitable for the D assembled by Homer. High attack/pressure system require more mobile defensemen than the Flyers have and definitely better outlet passers than they have. |

Seriously, Bryz is not better than any of those guys considering the length of his contract and cap hit. - phillydentist
Imho he's a better goalie than all of those.
He might be the answer for a Cup contender on the cusp and that's a stretch but he's no answer for this Flyers team that needs to fill so many holes.
Fill the holes and Bryz is more than fine.
The holes can be filled without buying him out.

With each passing game it becomes more and more obvious that this team has tuned out this coach. Perhaps Lavy has become the new Ken Hitchcock: great coach, but time to go.
I've never been a fan of Terry Murray ... but with our less than stellar defense, and a goalie who doesn't steal games, maybe it's time to go back to a more defense-first philosophy.

I truly don't think the players have left Lavy... I just think that adding to the comment above about his system, it's not meant for the team assembled. It was perfect for our teams of the past few seasons, not this one. |

Few Thoughts:
-Bryzgalov is not the primary issue, and honestly the summer of 2013 is not the time to buy him out. The options this summer are Jimmy Howard, Nicklas Backstrom and Mike Smith. They each have serious questions surrounding them that are as big as any of those surrounding Bryzgalov.
You're not going to get a discount on any of them, and there's another year they can wait on a final compliance decision on Bryzgalov. It also gives them more time to look at potential trades so they don't have to overpay in FA.
-I know Briere has the NMC, but as Tomahawk pointed out the other day, Briere willingly went to Germany during the lockout and signed a deal that would have kept him there for the duration of the season. I think if a contender was interested, it's no longer a foregone conclusion that he'd say no.
As for value, it's dependent on a lot of things. The NMC will limit the number of suitors. Briere could be spending the next 3 years with whatever team traded for him. That, too is a factor, because acquiring Briere does carry a hit of $6.5mm for another 2 years. That's significant. A team trading for him could buy out Briere, but that's not cheap, either.
-The Flyers issues, IMO, come from their 200 foot game, not their offensive talent. It's not easy to score goals when you spend 45 second of a shift trying to clear your own zone. Adding a Corey Perry don't solve that.
-As far as the coaching staff goes, I'm at the point now where I'm totally ambivalent if they make a change. I'm not certain it'd help, but I don't think that, at this point, it'd hurt, either.

Yup. Boucher at his best was one of the top goalies in the league. Unfortunately he rarely played at that level. |

People think they can get rid of Bryz, get a Bernier or someone like him without moving Schenn or Couturier--pretty incredible.
Look, I liked what I saw from Laughton, but whose to say he doesn't pan out the way everyone expects? What if Cousins has legal issues and doesn't end up being on the roster. You get rid of Couturier or Schenn, coupled with a declining Briere--it would be such a mistake to get rid of Bryz. That's a massive hole right there. |

Sucks to gamble on 3 different players and lose! I give him credit for trying, but when you put all your eggs in that free agent basket, sometimes you come up empty. I sincerely hope he doesn't do anything stupid like trading the youth of the team for aging vets, ala Bob Clarke circa 2002. |
