It's a 48 game and a 99 day long Season. Everything is amplified in a shortened Season. Daily values are higher then they would normally be. He's still only 32, soon to be 33. If he's healthy, he could find his game and help the Flyers. I don't like giving up a pick. But there is no long term risk. - MJL
Trading picks away for a stiff like Kubina and a high pick for an aging winger is a long term risk. You have to keep stocking up.
This team has zero shot at winning the cup, ok maybe 1.0%. Why trade future assets for an LA backup. Doesn't this piss you guys off? If there's a future move I'm sure a team would prefer the Flyers 3rd rd pick to a backup. Hoping for lightening in a bottle is not a strategy!

Just cause Sutter had benched him doesn't mean Gagne's career is over. A 4th round pick is not much to give up if they miss the playoffs.

Kubina if he didn't get injured was not a stiff. And is a 4th round or possibly 3rd round pick a high pick? I agree about keeping picks. But the long term risk was in terms of his contract.

Just infuriates me that you trade Carter and Richards for young players and picks and now your trading picks for instant return. There just doesn't seem to be a plan!

It's not like they traded a first round pick for a stiff. You always need a mix of players. I really don't think the Flyers jeopardized their future with the move.

Gagne is a Kings backup. I'd honeslty go with Wellwood. At a minimum I'd want a pick back for taking on Gagne's salary. A 6 or 7 rder at best.

we're not talking about 1st or 2nd rnd picks here, so lets not get to carried away.

Call him whatever you want. I'm going to let him take the ice and see what he's got. The Kings did not have to trade him for Cap issues.

Rebuilding while remaining a competitive team.
Let's put it another way, had they not made a trade today, with McGinn & Read out, they'd be basically waiving a white flag on the season. Regardless of the chance at a Cup this year, they weren't going to do that with 27 games left.
So they bring in a familiar face at a fairly low cost. If they're still on the outside looking in, they can sell off pieces and easily recoup what was traded away. In the short term, Gagne will bring a good veteran voice to the room and provide leadership

Bottom line is that you still want to make the playoffs. And that's what this is for. And you do what you can, within reason to try and make it.

I have no grand illussions that this team, this year will make a deep run. I'd be building assets rather than trading them. This team's, IMO, best days are ahead of them. Use Wellwood instead of Gagne. Is Gagne a massive upgrade over 'Z'? Id not use Z. Homer is in panic mode, IMO.

I totally disagree. Trading pieces of your future to just limp into the playoffs is why this team hasn't had a cup in more than three decades. Colts are very happy to get Luck instead of trading assets to be competetive.

Last season's Stanley Cup winner squeaked in and were in deep trouble at the half way point of the season. There's still plenty of time to dump assets if they are out of contention at the TDL.
