It seems like everytime that Stolarz kid name is mentioned, its something good. I'd ride Bryzgalov out until they can find a replacement. Only thing buying bryz out and getting a so called veteran replacement does is save maybe a mill and half to two mill against the cap. Not that big of a deal when you consider the other big contracts coming off the books.

I think our best option, to avoid over-spending this offseason is to trade picks + Laughton for a big scoring winger and sign better depth players. We don't need Laughton AT ALL, and I really think the Flyers have been drafting too many centermen over the years... That was the problem with Carter/Richards era, too many centers on the team, and not all of them can play wing.
- Flyers_V88

The problem with drafting centers comes when you sign a tiny one to too much money and then have to get rid of pieces to fit everyone under the cap.

I don't know about Quick but I'd say he's in the same neighborhood as Price.

Thing that a lot forget is this club got to game 6 of the finals with a Boucher/Leighton tandem, they can do that and more with Bryzgalov. If people don't realize that their being biased imo.

- JoeRussomanno

Quick is obviously better. But people are talking as if Bryz = Leighton.

Exactly. I brought up Bryz today because I get the sense people have gotten happy with Fool's Gold from the first 10 games of the season. I hope Holmgren isn't as shortsighted. Bryzgalov will be a huge monkey on the team's back for a very long time if not bought out by '14.
- phillydentist

ITs the course of a season. He had a good stretch, then a few bad games now he's kind of average heading into march where he has been historically very good going back to his days in Phoenix. See last season for further reference.

Stanley Cup winning goalies since 2005:

Cam Ward
Jean-Sebastian Giguere
Chris Osgood
Marc-Andre Fleury
Antti Niemi
Tim Thomas
Jonathan Quick

Other than the retired guy and Quick who would you want off this list to replace Bryz.

- ICUBB

Don't forget that Bryz played 5 games for the Ducks in the '07 playoffs and went 3-1 with a .922 SV% and a 2.25 GAA so he was part of the reason Anaheim won as well.

This is not 2004. You can't just compare players without taking into account their cap hit and length and age.

Sad that it takes a non-Flyers fan to see objectively.

Theodore's record against the Penguins is amazing...it's like 20 -5-something. This guy would be a great pick up.

Exactly. It's easy to blame Bryz, but really if you've watched all the games. He makes saves that KEEP US in the game, and actually save us from being absolutely destroyed some nights.
- Flyers_V88

He's had a number games where he hasn't been stellar, but has given the team a chance to win. That's really when you want to see the scoring players pick up the slack.

Then you move on to the next monkey, right?

Say they buy out Bryzgalov. Who do you replace him with? Do you trade a poopload of assets for a guy like Quick, who had a stellar season, but may have caught lightning in a bottle? Do you throw a ton of money at Mike Smith? Do you trade a bunch of assets for a guy like Bernier? If you do go with a younger guy, what happens if he struggles when handed the job? The Canucks were excited to hand things off to Schneider, but Luongo has played as much if not more than he has after his struggles to star the year.

Unless there's a plan to replace a guy, all you'd be doing is making a change for the sake of making a change, which is usually a bad idea.
