Thanks for making my point... That team was more experienced and alot better than this team and you have to also admit everything fell into place in those playoffs. Look at the teams that got knocked out early that we didn't have to play - SMS4016
at this time Bryz is far from the problem. As JS has pointed out...say Homer does buy him out...who do they get to replace him...i would stick with bryz

Seriously, Bryz is not better than any of those guys considering the length of his contract and cap hit.
He might be the answer for a Cup contender on the cusp and that's a stretch but he's no answer for this Flyers team that needs to fill so many holes. - phillydentist
What is your time frame for when you think the younger players on this team will be ready?

If somebody comes up with a good answer, I'm totally onboard with a buyout.
And I am very concerned with the recapture possibility if he should retire early, as well as the length of the deal. I'm not dismissing that, at all.
Big contracts aren't hard to move especially to teams that need to get to the cap floor. The Flyers could eat some of the cap hit as well. - NickTheKid87
When has this ever happened? Give me just one example of a team trading for a big contract to meet the cap floor?

We're sitting down with Pierre Mcguire in a little bit, and he wants to answer any hockey questions you've got #AskPierre

When Giroux isn't on the ice, the PP has no clue. I think we all agree with that. - PLindbergh31
I will tell you one thing the 1st unit PP has to stop doing. Like clockwork when they get set up, the puck is going to Giroux on the half wall. Teams are jumping that, and aggressively checking Giroux. Work the other side of the ice more. Have Giroux set up for a one timer. He has an awesome shot when he connects.
SCOUTING REPORT
Assets: His reflexes are first-rate and cat-like. Plays with supreme confidence when tending goal. Can steal a game all on his own, and is also capable of shaking off bad goals.
Flaws: Needs to play with more focus, so as to diminish the number of bad goals allowed. Can get into slumps where he starts fighting the puck. Lacks consistency, overall.
Career Potential: Talented goaltender with good upside.
Say they buy out Bryzgalov. Who do you replace him with? Do you trade a poopload of assets for a guy like Quick, who had a stellar season, but may have caught lightning in a bottle? Do you throw a ton of money at Mike Smith? Do you trade a bunch of assets for a guy like Bernier? If you do go with a younger guy, what happens if he struggles when handed the job? The Canucks were excited to hand things off to Schneider, but Luongo has played as much if not more than he has after his struggles to star the year.
Unless there's a plan to replace a guy, all you'd be doing is making a change for the sake of making a change, which is usually a bad idea. - Jsaquella
I agree with what you are saying but it wouldn't take a poop load to get a bernier or bishop type. I think Ottawa only gave up a 2nd round pick to get bishop.

Yes Yes we know all about Bryzgalov at this point, Sir!
So, who do you replace him with? Just saying to get rid of him and worry about it later isn't a good answer. - Jsaquella
This is where creative thinking comes in. Who predicted we would ever trade Richards and Carter? Who ever thought we would get Pronger? Just because the UFA list is weak in 2013 doesn't mean we can't do anything. If there are no options, then wait til 2014. But to be stuck with Bryz the length of his contract after that would be a huge cement block tied to our ankles.

They are far from guarantees and could end up struggling. It's a gamble no matter how you slice it.

Problem is we dont have that many assets on the team....besides briere, who doesnt fit right now and has little trade value we cant get that much.
