Laughton, Gustafsson, Cousins, and a 3rd rounder... I think that could do, no? The Jets have Trouba coming, and they're in need of scoring and centers. They clearly are in no threat of a playoff spot now, so this could make some great sense to them.

Montreal just cleared themselves some cap space. Other than that, my mental deficiencies do not allow me to grasp the reasoning of this trade

I usually enjoy your banter but this is outright ridiculous. I'll make this easy to understand....
1. Huge fan favorite
2. Our best player
3. Reasonable contract
4. Loved by team-mates
5. Grew up 2 hrs from Winnipeg

I wouldn't mind seeing him back in the Indian head sweater. But the salary cap and fit with this present team doesn't seem likely. Can't discount the Cheveldayoff relationship to Chicago though.
If nothing else the look on Luongo's face when Buff in the Indian head hitting the ice vs the Nux in the playoffs would be priceless! |

It is not that hard, Cole was out of shape and not happy and already talked retirement, this trade like you said clears the cap space, Ryder is having a good season and outscored Cole last year which was pretty much the best you could ever expect from Cole.
oh and a 3rd round pick, again this trade is not hard to grasp |
