Kevin Shattenkirk is far more valuable to the Blues than Danny Briere would be. - NickTheKid87
Are you talking Regular Season Danny or Playoff Danny...Two completely different players. |

Let's put it this way. If the Blues decided they needed help up front and decided to move Shattenkirk to get that player, don't you think they'd aim a lot higher than Briere? - bradleyc4
Without a shadow of a doubt. |

I'll give up watching Hockey if the Flyers get Shattenkirk for Briere. That's how confident I am that it isn't happening. - MJL

Doesn't really matter. A 35 year old forward with a high cap hit isn't even close to being worth a 24 year old top pairing dman. |

I disagree. Briere is a different player in the playoffs. Like a more skilled, less physical Claude Lemieux. He's a ppg player in the playoffs. That's Foppa-esque. |

The high cap hit doesn't mean a lick to a team like STL who is not near the limit. His actual salary is $5M over the next 2 years. That's a steal for a player like Briere. |

So you're telling me, that you would trade your #2 defenseman (24 years old) for a 35 year old forward with two years left tops? |

Not if you're giving up Shattenkirk to get him. Maybe a 1st rounder tops but not Shattenkirk. |

Let me make this clear. I think it would be a steal for the Flyers. I wouldn't do it. My point is I can see reason for STL to do it if they really think Briere puts them over the top. Briere is a special player in the playoffs. That's indisputable. Teams have given up worse for less in the past. That's all I'm saying. |

Yes, it would allowed for Boston to trade for him now, buy him out in the summer and for the Flyers to re-sign him as a UFA (although not by prior arrangement if they could prove it).
What would NOT be allowed is for the Flyers to buy him out and then re-sign him at a lower cap figure. - bmeltzer
Could Briere say to Boston that he would waive the NMC only if they agree to the buyout? |

I can see the reason St. Louis would want Briere but there is ZERO logic in trading Shattenkirk. Doug Armstrong is far from an idiot. It will NEVER happen. |

The Blues are not going to trade a 24 year old defenseman, who is among the leading scorers at his position for a 35 year old Briere.
Briere's got 2 years left with a $6.5mm cap hit and he's 35. He's got a NMC which limits the possibility of a bidding war for his services.
Unless a team is really desperate, I doubt Briere fetches much more than a 2nd rounder & mid level prospect. |

not sure if alot of guys here are confusing shattenkirk with pietrangelo or not but briere for shatenkirk is a pretty fair trade imo, he is nothing spectaculari n fact he was traded with stewart for eric johnson.
what briere would give the blues in the playoffs would far more surpass what we would get from shatty, in fact i would think the blues would have to add something to the deal, not us.
i see guys posting briere+1st's+laughton or maybe coots and scheenn, thats non-sense. - mydoglicks
Shattenkirk is the second highest scoring Defenseman in the NHL this year, and he's 24. |

Voracek is turning into a pretty good player, has been hot since playoffs of last year. No way do he and Briere (and Gustafson) get traded for Shatterbutt or whatever and Stewart. I like Stewart but he's another Simmonds and Flyers need playmakers. |

I would do Jake, Gus and Danny for Shattenkirk and Stewart. |
