Pierre, it's not a tough call for McCauley to have seen that puck went dead center into the net. Yes, it went in and out of the net real fast, but even on TV it looked like it went dead center.

I agree with McGuire about Wes McCauley being one of the better refs in the NHL. His dad was one of the all-time best, and I think he's real good, too.

As for VanMassenhoven, I think he's far too often out of position and doesn't hustle. But I will always respect him for not ejecting Marc Bureau after his infamous elbow on Petr Svoboda in 1996, telling Bureau he'd have to answer for it himself when he got out of the box. That was old-school refereeing that you just don't see anymore. Sure enough, later that same game, Craig MacTavish pummeled Bureau in a fight.

Didn't think it had started quite yet, but as part of the sequestration, there will no longer be second assists awarded on the first goal of a game.
