Agree to disagree. I don't like guys running guys when the outcome of games have been decided. It's a borderline hit at best, if you want to do that in the flow of the game ok, with 20 seconds left in a game where the outcome has been decided I don't agree with it. Just my opinion. - PLindbergh31
The hit was in the flow of the game. And he wasn't trying to run anyone. He was attempting a clean hit in the flow of play.

Manning has really struggled for most of the season; more downs than ups. Pretty much whenever he's been paired with Danny Syvret, it's been a disaster. - bmeltzer
Any possibility they bring a guy like Lauridson up? Or to avoid the cap hassle will it be Lilja? |

Like I said earlier, I'll call some bullsh!t if he gets suspended for that hit. He may because he is a 4th line player, but that is too borderline to suspend him for, in my non-Shanny opinion, of course. - Lexington Flyer
I believe he will be suspended. An unnecessary hit in a game where the outcome was decided. It appears the hit caused an injury as well, which is a big factor in Shanahan's decision making. |

Possibly, but I think you'd be more likely to see Lauridsen called up if it were 22 or 8 who went down, because he's an AHL version of that style of D-man.

When the opposing team's coach is saying it was a clean hit, usually means there won't be a suspension - Jsaquella

Katie Carrera @kcarrera
Oates said he didn’t believe the hit was dirty, faulted Perreault for trying dipsy-doodle through the neutral zone.
This Oates guy must be some kind of Flyers scout - Jsaquella
Ouellet was worth it for this. |

Just gotta hope Mezaros is OK soon. But they should not rush him back because a recurrence of that shoulder injury would be terrible.
New page, new Ovechkin gif.

We'll see. Just didn't see the need for him to do it is all. |

Nope. If the Flyers make an AHL recall, it might have to be Lilja again because Manning has had more downs than ups this season. A shame, because he's an earnest, confident and hard-working player, so it's not lack of motivation or work at improving. The results just haven't been there most of the year.
That said, Bourdon actually played better in the NHL than the AHL last year. - bmeltzer
I was praying the one game at MSG was the last time we would see Lilja. He is so bad it's frightening. |

Taking a game misconduct, and probably drawing a suspension is a fantastic way to cement his position on the team. - PLindbergh31
I don't have a problem with the hit, the timing of it, or the fact that it wasn't Erskine. If teams take runs at our skill players (as OV had done to Briere), the way to make them stop is to run their skill players. I wish they would do more of that instead of tying to send out a goon for some sort of staged "retribution".
This had been a chippy, hard hitting game from the beginning. If Briere or Giroux put himself in that sort of position (head down, trying to dipsy doodle through the neutral zone), don't think for a minute that Ward or Chimera or the closest Cap wouldn't have tried to snuff him out like a candle. I think it was a good hit, that had a tough outcome for the Caps (assuming their guy is injured).
The game misconduct call was a joke, and I hope will be rescinded by the league. I didn't even think it was a penalty, but I can see the refs calling one to get him off the ice and try to maintain control of the game. |

Trying to draw a tripping penalty...on the puck. Be kind of an odd scene if the puck was in the box for two |

except he should get a game misconduct just for being stupid. No need to make a big hit with 30 seconds left in a 4 - 1 game.
- FlyerGuy
That's BS... I don't buy the 30 seconds left argument. You keep going until the final whistle. If not, by the same line of thought... Why were the Caps were still trying to score? HarryZ was not going to roll over, and trying to prevent the score. |

I might have to watch the game again. Other than a few hits here and there, I thought it was a pretty tame game overall. |

I hear what you are saying. You make valid points. No one loves big open ice clean hits more than me, doing it when the outcome isn't in doubt anymore doesn't sit well with me.
And if the shoe was on the other foot, and someone buried Giroux, or another of the Flyers skilled players in the same situation, people here would be going apepoop. |

Probably right that he didn't need to do it, but at the same time, he is a fringe player trying desperately to get less fringe...playing hard until the whistle. I guess I am just kind of a Z fan. |

not about rolling over ... you just don't go for a big hit in the last minute or two of a lopsided game. No need. Zero.
You may not buy it, but it's the way nearly every player on every team plays. Every now and then there's an exception, and tonight was one. |

I understand. He wants to do something to be noticed. I noticed him a hell of a lot more for his hustle play that negated an icing and lead to the Flyers generating some scoring chances. If he stays out of the box, that will get him noticed. |

Some people would be upset, but I don't think anyone saying they think this hit was fine would be a hypocrite about it. |

Adam Oates played over 1300 NHL games. He called the hit a clean hit. Do you think he would know about this unwritten rule in the game? I think what Oates knows is that you play until the final buzzer. The hit was within the flow of the game.

How many lopsided games have you watched in your life? I bet quite a few, as have I.
I've RARELY seen a player go for a big hit in the last minute of a lopsided game unless it was in retribution for something. |
