There is a lot less talent on this team then most Isles fans think. I don't know why people think/say that we have a talented team? Do you watch other teams play? We don't have much talent. - Cptmjl
I don't know...there seems to be more chatter this year among coaches, on broadcasts, and just in general, of people recognizing that there is some talent on this team. Tavares and Moulson get most of the credit, but Grabner's getting some recognition for what he provides. And we know what we have in some of our bottom-six energy players that can actually sustain a forecheck and get some momentum going. We haven't had that in recent years...never had a line like Martin-Cizikas-McD/whoever who we could throw out there when things start spiraling out of control to maybe swing some momentum back in the Isles' favor and at least have a shift spent mostly in the other team's zone.
I really think there's enough talent where, with a heck of a lot more structure in how the team approaches the game, particularly in its own zone, getting into the playoffs wouldn't be entirely out of the realm of possibility. Do the Leafs have that much more talent than the Isles? Or the Jets? Because both of those teams are currently holding down playoff spots... |

Trading partners? - Cptmjl
His stock right now is the highest its been all yr after coming off two good games.
Maybe there is a team out there that believes they can improve is atrocious skating.
Otherwise I have to believe that the NHL knows he cant skate very well and I doubt we get much back for him one on one.
He would be best served being part of a package deal.
For whom?
thats anyone's guess. |

i said it...and stick to it...the only way pap signs with the isles is with a 4 year deal, that doesnt fit into their plans. - LetsGoIsles
It should fit into the plans.... They had a player getting it done, their plans consist of replacing that player with players that might get it done, you hold on to the player getting it done till the ones that might.. are. If the planned players become what was expected in a year, or 2, you trade PAP for a weak spot. If the players don't amount to what you planned, you still have the guy who was getting it done. Someone needs to inform them that if their plan is to just let ASSETS walk away fro nothing, their plan is never going to work.

No they do not have more talent.
Toronto changed their system.
They used to play the same system we did... the Burke, Wilson Gordon.. GoGo system... that doesn't work.

What is your idea of "competing for the Stanley Cup"? - Cptmjl
when they get into the playoffs, they will be considered a threat to win it...unlike this season, IF (which i dont think they will) they get in, no one will fear them. |

I was saying the same thing last night.
This Leafs team is basically the same team from last yr.
The coach is gone. Burke is gone. Orr is back.
They are now playing a different style of hockey and they are a bit more intimidating. More physical.
And winning. |

Exactly. You can't simply ignore defense. As last night showed, you can score four goals and still come up short if D isn't a priority. |

IDK about their talent level? I usually agree with you but we'll disagree on this one. There is some but feel it's limited. |

Maybe if the Isles had a better coach guys like Bailey and KO would show something and there would be no need to trade these guys? So much for the importance placed on building with young talent.

disagree with everything BUT the bold last line...i wanted him traded; i had a feeling he was going to go where the most money was being offered...and rightfully so.
as for the first part, i understand what your saying, we just have a difference of opinion on the approach. i think they can replace pap with a much cheaper alternative and use that money saved to something that cant be replaced immediately IE dman |

We've seen it with past Isles players that were traded.

I was shocked by his goal total, he always was more of a set up guy. He's not scoring but he's putting up points none the less. Irregardless his point total tells me he's worth 4.5 million. - Cptmjl
Over 4 years? Let's wait and see what that point total looks like after the four year term, not 20 games into the first season. He's going to get his points, Matt Duchene is no Tavares but the kid is still a wicked player. PA will put up decent stats but I seriously doubt he'll sniff at 67 points again. |
