DP didn't make fun of suicide, instead told @KMaherNews12 how important his wife was to him, and w/o her, "I might have driven into a tree."

Good...we can put this to rest then....of course Junior Seau backtracked on the whole suicide thing when confronted with it....turns out the bluff was in the denial.... |

Seems like a lot going on here. If he is depressed, I hope he gets better. From the isles standpoint, I hope he goes away. We don't need him to still be the center of attention if he is healthy mentally |

Defintiely is an issue that should be paid close attention to since I think we all can agree his career isn't going to have a happy ending. |

I'm sorry if I am changing the topic here but why does everyone cut up Rick DiPietro for his contract. It's an awful contract and all and hes definitely not the greatest lol, but hey if someone gives me 15 years at 70 mill or whatever it was for being an average goalie I am going to take it! He didn't make the deal he just signed it! You can all thank your great GM for that and he deserves all the criticism, yet doesn't receive half the amount DP does. |

I think you're mixing timeframes a bit. Lundqvist signed his deal in 2008, after posting good numbers for three years in the NHL and winning a gold medal in the Olympics. In fact, he had signed just a one-year deal right before that. Lundqvist's worst year before signing his contract was better than DP's best year before signing his. Whatever people thought about DiPietro's "potential," $4.5M was not an underpayment by any stretch for that player at the time of that deal. In fact, if it had been a normal, say, two-year deal, it would have been quite an overpayment. The "risk" for DP was that he could possibly develop into a player that would be worth more. - UIF
the reason why you sign a player to a 15 year contract is to front load it so you can give yourself cap flexibility. That's why the Dipietro deal never made sense.
Since the Islanders never approach the salary cap limit, it never made sense for them to stretch out the 60 million they were paying over 15 years. It actually would have helped them out if they gave it over 8 years, then they would never have an issue hitting the cap floor. |

I don't think anyone blamed him for taking the contract. My part of the debate was whether the money aspect was really that bad. Considering the $4.5 million was around 10th best for a goaltender in the league, I think the annual salary of the contract was pretty decent. I just can't imagine why anyone would ever sign a goaltender to a term that long. If he had managed to play another season or two at a decent level he probably could have commanded close to $7 mil per season...over a shorter term of course. |

Its actually the reverse. We kill DP because he sucks. Outsiders come on here and make fun of his contract as well as some of us. Wang give him the deal not Neil Smith and if you're on here a lot you would know wang gets killed by 99% of us daily |

At the time, the salary cap was much lower so in theory based on today's cap you're right but in 07 it was much less |

Typical isles comment...
Below is a statement from New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow about comments made by goalie Rick DiPietro earlier today.
“We are aware of Rick’s comments today and the severity of them. We will handle them internally as we do with all player matters. This is an opportunity for Rick to play lots of games in Bridgeport.”

I'll never understand the rationale for the Dipietro deal, there is no way to make sense of a deal that long unless you front load it.
if the Islanders signed him to that deal with worrying about the salary cap in future years then why didn't they buyout Yashin when they had the opportunity to do it with the amnesty clause?
Waiting to buyout Yashin after the amnesty period let them get to the cap floor every year, so that cancels out whatever rationale you could make that the Dipietro contract was made with the salary cap in mind. |

You're hoping Phaneuf TAKES OUT KO? You rip every player on the team not named JT or MM. Your posts are absurd....and I'm being kind. Guaranteed you'd ask KO for an autograph at Dunkin Donuts. Then tell him to keep up the good work.
I'm havin' a great day, thanks. McLovin' it.
