I would be really leery about moving Couturier for Shattenkirk, I still think we have only seen a small part of what this kid can do on both ends of the ice. Now if we could get Shattenkirk at the deadline for say Matt Read and a 1st, thats a deal I would do.
- BiggE

I'd do Briere and a 1st for Shattenkirk and their 2nd. Briere helps them more than Read does for what they want to do and thats win the Cup the next 3yrs. If the Flyers miss the playoffs, I get the feeling that will be a sweet 1st rd pick and so I'd want their 2nd back. If they have a deep playoff run, their 2nd is almost like a high 3rd so it's not as lopsided for us as it looks.

Here is my thought on the Danny situation. I think we agree that there is a log jam at Center on this team. He is a natural Center and really is worthless as a winger. I would deal him for defense because it is shooting two birds with one stone. Anything could help our blue line right now, they run around in there own zone way to much for my liking, and the obvious cap space it creates. Now obviously moves are going to be made, but,for arguments sake, AND ONLY AS AN EXAMPLE, say they traded Briere for Smid, picks could be exchanged it doesnt matter, and they resign Smid and Gagne and thats all they do going into next season. your lines could tentatively look like this

Vorachek, Giroux, Hartnell
Read, Schenn, Simmonds
Gagne, Coots, Talbot
Mcginn, Laughton, Rinaldo

Timmonen, Smid
Schenn,Mez
Grossaman,Coburn....with Gus as the sixth guy

That isnt the best team in the world, but it certainly not the worst and has a ton of young potential with some vetraen leadership sprinkled in. However I am sure Homer is trying to make a blockbuster, but part of me hopes he doesnt unless the only thing going the other way is Danny and picks and I highly doubt that

Agree. But if Shatt gets $5M then Piet gets at least $7M. Can STL keep both?
- phillydentist

Unless St. Louis has an internal budget issue. Yes, they have the Cap space to keep both easily.

Cautiously optimistic about Gustafsson after reading the below:

http://www.philly.com/phi...t/Give-Flyers-D-an-A.html

Gustafsson injured. Erik Gustafsson left the game early in the second period and did not return. Gustfasson injured his shin blocking an Eric Fehr shot. The Delco Times also reported that Gustafsson may have a groin injury.

Gustafsson didn’t think the injury was serious. "I’ll be back sooner rather than later,” he said.

For small market teams like STL and NSH, its not about cap space but more about finances. And that's what I was refering to and banking on.

You would do Briere and a 1st for Shattenkirk. I wish you were the Blues GM. The odds of that happening are very slim.

You may be banking on it, but do you know for a fact that finances will be an issue in STL?

While Briere may waive his NMC for some deals, there is NO WAY he will to go to Edmonton and move 3000 miles away from his kids.

The Blues have 33 million in Cap space next year. I think it's safe to say they are staying with the Blues unless a trade happens.

The kids thing is huge, but you can boil it down to hockey as well. Briere waiving NMC to go to a non-playoff team? Not happening.

I agree I was just using that as an example, put Boychuk or Shattenkirk or any d man rumored in there for Smid. My point was as logged jammed as this team is at center this season unless some deal is made it will be worse next season bacause Laughton from all indications should make the team next year and is a pure center

Sounds like good news.

I wish Foster was just a little more mobile. It's nice to have one person on the ice with a heavy shot from the point.

For sure. He is still about 5 weeks away though. Will be interesting to see what they do when he gets back. If Gagne can consistently play like he did last night, the Flyers have the good problem of options.
- Lexington Flyer

no doubt. they can move gagne around, and the same with read. i think having a handful of guys still here from gagne's last few years certainly helps with the transition - hartnell, briere, knuble - hell even fedetenko and boucher were here 10 years ago.

Saw a few times where the Caps were really headhunting.

Loved the crowd all over Ovi too. Wonderful.

He is just a shell of his former self. It's kind of sad to see because he used to be so exciting and dominant. What the heck happened?

Fedotenko is getting beat up here for no reason. The guy is doing a great job on the pk and always hustles. Scratching Knuble was the right move. Let Harry Z compete with McGinn for the last spot once he gets healthy and until Matt Read is ready to return.
....

- BiggE

I agree on Fedotenko. I have no problem with his game. Although, I don't expect him to score boat loads of goals. Fedotenko is a stablizing factor on the 4th line. Let HarryZ and Ronaldo do their jobs, and let Fedotenko be the anchor.

HarryZ versus McGinn means a different line up. I don't see McGinn playing the fourth line. I say rotate them depending on the opponent - If its a big team, McGinn or if the team is quicker, HarryZ.

You have all convinced me that I could never be a GM because:

A) I'm not a gambler
B) I don't have cojones of steel
C) I come to this board way too often
