Off the top of my head, Zhitnik for Coburn. - phillydentist
That's not even close to the same thing. Coburn was a struggling, unproven defenseman and Atlanta thought Zhitnik would help them get into the playoffs.
Shattenkirk is a top pairing defenseman and is a key part of the Blues. He alone is more valuable to the Blues than Briere would be. The same could not be said of Coburn. |

Roenick did the same on NHL Tonight. Ovie's making $110k per game, and JR had a 'highlight' reel of his miscues from the game. Said Leonsis should be asking for a refund. - tangent_man
Mere bag of shells. Leighton makes 900K per game. |

Far different situation. Unlike Doug Armstrong, who has a solid grip on his job, Don Waddell had to make the post season to keep his job. He didn't have the luxury of hoping Coburn would turn into a good defenseman.
Also, unlike Coburn, who was a very inconsistent prospect at the time, Shattenkirk is an established NHLer, in the midst of an excellent season. The season he was traded he had even spent time in the AHL. |

At the time of that deal, Coburn had played 39 NHL games and was still very much a prospect. Shattenkirk is in his 3rd NHL Season and is established as a very good NHL defenseman. - MJL
And Zhitnik is no Briere who is a proven playoff beast... with 3 potential playoff runs and not just a 2 month rental. |

I may be mistaken, but wasn't Nashville about to head into their first playoffs that year? They were probably looking for a veteran blueliner and had grown a bit impatient with Coburn's development (and impatience is something we're far too familiar with here).
Of course, Holmgren could have just been lucky as hell, too.

Right? and the checks keep rolling in. Take it if you can get it, I guess. Even if you have to fudge the truth about your back injury

Actually, over his career, Zhitnik was a very solid playoff performer. |

Nope, it was Atlanta, but they needed to make the playoffs to save the GM's job, which led to two desperation trades. Coburn for Zhitnik and a picks and prospects package for Keith Tkachuk |

He never got any payback on that BS elbow did he? He did nothing as a player. Waste of a roster spot ends up taking out Pirmeau.
While we're compiling our hit list, we may as well add Grabovski. Yeah it was an accident but hey this is business.
- Lexington Flyer
nope. never. and then he went back to russia. (frank)ing assclown.
i've got no beef with grabovski. just sucks something so dumb ends a HOFer's career. wear a (frank)ing visor, ya' dope. no guarantee, but a better chance of being protected. |

That place is like every other rink. The men's league finishes and everyone else is gone. The Zamboni driver finishes up and locks the doors. His son found him around 1:30 am when he didn't come home. He was 70 which these days isn't really as old as it sounds. |
