Sadly half the fun is the perect timing. Comedy and tragedy are close cousins. (More so on this board). |

You criticized the Gagne deal because the Flyers were taking a Cap hit off of LA's hands. So you think that the Flyers should have gotten him cheaper. Never mind that you didn't even take inot consideration that LA didn't need the Cap space. As they have plenty available even before moving Gagne. But why doesn't that same logic apply to the Flyers dealing Briere? Isn't a team taking the Cap hit off of the Flyers hands? So how can you expect that good of a return? Not to mention that the Flyers are actually a team that can use the Cap space. And not to mention that Gagne is on an expiring contract. And Briere is not. The two opinions don't jive with one another. - MJL
Regarding Gagne, WE (who are over the limit and must use LTIR) are taking the cap hit and taking $2.1M left on his salary for a player they weren't even playing so consideration should be taken for that. And just because LA had cap room to spare doesn't negate the fact that they have even more cap room and salary relief to get a piece at the TDL.
As for Briere, his cap hit doesn't matter to STL as they are $20M under the limit. What matters to them is his salary which is $5M over the next two years - a steal for him.
Briere isn't damaged goods (sorry Gagne fans) and is universally considered a playoff point producing machine. While Gagne has played a dozen games in the past 7 months. Also, as far as we know, only the Flyers wanted Gagne but there are at least two teams "speculated" to want Briere.
There is no conflict. Only that the teams involved have different cap and salary situations and you are throwing them all in together. |

Yeah I agree on Grabo, but damn, thinking about the high calibre Flyers players that have ended their career with freak/weird/intentional injuries over the last 15 years man: Lindros (had a decent year or two in NYR but was never the E-train again), Primeau, Foppa, and now Pronger. Jesus. In every case, those guys were THE GUY on the team when they went down. That is some hard luck. - Lexington Flyer
They should have done what the old Flyers did, not name the best player on the team (you know, minus Primeau) and go with the Bridgman, Poulin type. |

Never too late to chime in - unless it's with hockey news. Give it a shot. Worst that can happen is you turn out to be Bruno Kirby's character from Good Morning Vietnam. - Flyskippy

I still have all of the originals. Haven't took one of the shelf for 33 years. - mayorofangrytown
Be careful getting those down. As you age you can lose some hit points stretching to reach stuff.
I sold all by D&D stuff to a buddy of mine when I hit 16. Kept my dice collection though. Something about access to a car, a little bit of freedom from the parents, and "parking" with catholic high school cheerleaders took my mind off my level 17 dwarf king. My buddy still games avidly. He is/was all into warhammer and who knows what else these days...though I am pretty sure he still gets out the classic AD&D once in a while. |
