Regarding Gagne, WE (who are over the limit and must use LTIR) are taking the cap hit and taking $2.1M left on his salary for a player they weren't even playing so consideration should be taken for that. And just because LA had cap room to spare doesn't negate the fact that they have even more cap room and salary relief to get a piece at the TDL.
- phillydentist
Taking on Gagne and his salary, was the Flyers choice. They were not forced to do so. So why should that lessen the value from LA's point of view? And LA could take on well over 30M in Cap hits at the trade deadline even before trading Gagne. And you still want to beleive that it was a Cap deal for LA? LA simply did a veteran player a solid and decided to move him for whatever they could get, because he was apparently no longer in their plans.
As for Briere, his cap hit doesn't matter to STL as they are $20M under the limit. What matters to them is his salary which is $5M over the next two years - a steal for him.
- phillydentist
Sure his Cap hit matters to St. Louis. They have a bunch of players that need to re-signed. Big difference between taking on an expiring deal, which the Flyers did with gagne. Versus taking on a player like Briere, with another year left at 6.5M. That would definitely be a factor with St. Louis future Cap situation.
Briere isn't damaged goods (sorry Gagne fans) and is still considered a playoff point producing machine. While Gagne has played a dozen games in the past 7 months. Also, as far as we know, only the Flyers wanted Gagne but there are at least two teams "speculated" to want Briere.
There is no conflict. Only that the teams involved have different cap and salary situations and you are throwing them all in together. - phillydentist
Gagne didn't look like damaged goods last night. And again, Gagne's deal is done after this Season. What risk is there to the Flyers?
There is a huge conflict in your assessment of each deal. And clearly I'm looking at the complete picture. Which involves the Cap ramifications, as well as the practical application of the deals, and how reasonable it is. |

GANGE LOKED GRET LAST NITE
WAY TO GID HOMLGER!!!
Seriously, I loved watching him play when he doesn't have the puck, his positioning on the ice is so solid. Instantly made the team D better.
He seems to have ignited Couts and Talbot too.
I won't get too excited about last night because the Caps looked like the comatose brothers, but credit the Flyers also for playing the right way.
I thought Harry Z had a solid game last night, one shift he beat the icing call and had effective fore check with his speed most of the night. For the fourth line he did OK.
The late hit was not a penalty imo.
Any update on Gusty? |

Considering career points totals I didn't think Sam Gagner + someone like Magnus Paajarvi, who was drafted at a similar time as Couturier in the draft, was too bad of an offer considering Gagner's career stats to Couturier's so far. Apparently, I insulted half the world with it. Like I said...Difference of opinion.
I like how he thinks it makes a difference where Paajarvi was drafted in relation to Couts. |

yeah idk, everyone is entitled to there opinion but st louis makes sense in more then 1 aspect, they have no top center, they have tons of cap and a slew of good young players and a solid dmen, they have like 10 rfa/ufa this year including pietrangleo and shattenkirk both needed signed.

We might be able to get Ian Cole but according to a Blues fan he has played well on the top pairing with Pietrangelo. Briere will probably get us no more than a 2nd and a 2nd tier prospect. Not sure if any team that has been rumored to be interested in Danny would move any NHL talent for him. |

He took a familiar strategy: pitch a clearly unreasonable trade, then play like the response is outrageous. I'm surprised he didn't facetiously call us all 'experts'. |

Then maybe we should just trade them Giroux for Gagner. After all, Giroux only went 22nd so Gagner must be worth a lot more. |

He panders for hits by either saying 'controversial' things, or pitching trades somewhere in the range of '(insert key player) for (insert package of Edmonton spare parts)'.
And it works. |

I read a post game quote somewhere that Gusty didn't seem to think he'd be out for too long.
I agree with your assessment of pairing Couturier with Gagne. If the Flyers choose to keep Gagne around after the injured return, I think he can really help Couturier.
As for Couturier, he just can't seem to buy a goal right now if you put him goal town with a fist full of goal bucks. He needs a greasy goal or a goal to bounce in off his skate or something.
