briere for shatterkirk is a fair trade imo, if you put them on a scale its even, briere gives a true post season hope to a real contender, shaterkirk fills a huge hole for us

AAV of $5mm, IIRC that's a 1st, 2nd & 3rd
- Jsaquella

I have not seen much of his play, but that seems like an OK return for a guy who is basically trying to parlay one 55 point season into something big, especially considering that Calgary's #1 pick is likely to be rolling lottery style. Colorado would likely be looking at two early round 1 picks. That is rebuilding Penguins style, if you grab the right players.

Dreger tweets that the Flames have filed an offer sheet on Ryan O'Reilly

What do they have to give up if he signs and Colorado decides to let him walk?

But this agrees with Jsaq who said 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. I'd let him walk. Take the picks and say bye bye problem child.

I would take that chance if I was Calgary. He's worth it IMO.

"Hey Zac...there's a girl in the 2nd row over there looking for Carters number. Do you still have it?"
- tangent_man

Damn it tangent! That was too funny, and I seriously doubt Rinaldo has trouble with the ladies. He looks like he stepped right out of Grease the musical.

Just 5 that's G pulling Rinaldo out of the face off so fedatenko can lose it leading to their goal. Or something...

I don't know. He'll get a 6.5M salary in year two of the deal. Which pretty much guarantees he'll get the same salary after the two years are done. That's a lot of money for him.

Young kid with tons of potential. He can play a two way game. Reminds me of a young Rod Brind'Amour with more scoring potential.

I could be wrong but I think the kid is a going to be a stud.

Apparently that guy managed to fight it off after the first run at him but when it came back he was finished.

This is why I don't swim in the ocean. Same reason I don't hike in Bigfoot territory or anywhere there are Grizzlies, wolves and cougars.

- mayorofangrytown

Yeah you definitely aren't safe from cougars.
Please insert pic so I can judge if my statement above is accurate.

Real life story I've been face to face with a mama grizzly and cub whole out riding. Heart stopping.

The way its written up smacks the avs harder than we smacked nashville. they didnt want to pay the guy 4 mil. Their going to sign him to this sheet and possibly have a very disgruntled guy on their hands that they will lose in a couple years anyway. Take the near guaranteed extra top 10 pick

Avs should take the picks. They ain't making the dance and neither is Calgary. Take the picks and have two early 1st rounders in what is supposed to be a deep draft. Not to mention the additional picks.

He could well be, but this is a ton of money for a kid so green behind the ears. What if he goes the way of the Cheechoo?

Leave it to a team like the Flames that have been in need of a rebuild for years to give an offer sheet.

This woud be a no brainer for the Avs if he was going the way of Cheechoo. However, they know O'Reilly is going to be a stud. They have played without him all season so it might be worth the risk to let him go.

Calgary has no choice. They need a number #1 and a two way stud like him.

They could rebuild around him especially with Iginla most likely on his way out. They will get some of those picks back if they decide to trade him at the deadline.
