My opinion is to match. I'm a believer in keeping the young core of guys together if I'm Colorado.
All I'm saying is if Colorado doesn't want to pay him then they will take the picks.
Pretty simple. - stveshdy
OK, just seemed as if you changed positions. |

yea, i'm sure that was colorado's original intention. but i think sometimes you make a decision (hold tough on contract demands), bad things happen (like negotiations getting hostile), and then you kinda have to make the best of a bad situation.
i don't think anyone is arguing that colorado wanted things to get out of hand like this, but poop happens. then what can you do but move on? - FlyerMike18
Agreed.
I just don't know the exact damage thats been done between the Av's and O'Reilly. Thats an internal issue which they would have to weigh which is the better option (match or take picks). |

No sir.
I would match the offer.
Colorado may take the picks.
I honestly don't have insight on what is going on behind the scenes between them. I just think if the damage is beyond repairable than this should be an easy decision for the Av's. |

i hear ya. sometimes things like that might appear worse than they actually are. but it definitely seemed bad from an outsider's perspective. and if it is the way it seemed, i can't see any way they'd be wise to match |

That's all I was suggesting-that perhaps the relationship is past saving. I wouldn't be surprised if they matched. |

As I said before, I wouldn't be amazed if Colorado matched. Just pointing out you have to weigh all the factors-potential headaches in re-signing him in 18 months, possible hard feelings from his holdout, what signing him to that contract means for other young players on your roster(Gabe Landeskog, for example) and the fact that if you match, you can't trade him until one calendar year after you match-which could be beyond next season's TDL.
That means you have to carry him until he's a RFA again. - Jsaquella
believe me, i think they let him go. i'd actually be surprised if they matched after all of this
but as said above, i guess you never know |

How do they match if this can't work out anymore?
Colorado knows where the situation is and it should be simple to make an educated decision based on the damage. |

Since the Jets are in serious of need of center help and well the Flyers have a bunch. How far would the organization have to go to get Bogosian or Byfuglien? |

As I said, I didn't know if the damage was irreparable or not. Based on O'Reilly cutting off talks with the Avs and his father's comments, it was possible that it was.
Since they have matched, obviously they see it as a relationship that can be repaired. |

kinda a no brainer.
this is a business. A 1st and a 3rd is not enough for O'Reilly. Sign him and if they choose the Avs can trade him in a year... plus he'll still have value as a RFA if they decide to go that route. There is no place for emotions in business. |

Depending on when the TDL is next season, they might not be able to move him prior to it and would have to wait until he's a RFA.
The fact that they matched likely eliminates the possibility that he'll be dealt, though |

As I said at the start, I wouldn't be amazed if they matched. Even if it is a fractured relationship, they wanted a lot more in return than a couple picks. They'll still control his rights, so it's not as if they're screwed in 18 months |

Flyers prospect Derek Mathers just got a checking from behind penalty that ended up being a 4 minute penalty.
It sent Daniel Walsh of the Ottawa 67's to the locker room - ob18

Yup. You did say they would match (as did I).
I know the $ is a lot but IMO getting a 1st and 3rd isn't enough for O'Reilly. |

Byfuglien's shot from the point is sorely needed, Pronger's shot on the point is sorely missed. Byfuglien might not be considered a #1 d-man, but he is close. Plus, with his size, you know he can move guys from in front.
I keep coming back to the same conclusion. For the Flyers to get a quality offensive d-man with good defensive, skill, it is going to cost B. Schenn or Coots. I'm ready for that to happen because I think Laughton can be an effective third line center for a long time. |
