Really? I thought he was progressing well? When was the last update? - jak521
Last update I read was he's experiencing pain shooting the puck, and hasn't been cleared for contact. |

Not to mention it sounds like Meszaros isn't very close to returning. - PLindbergh31
Remember, in camp, Meszaros said that his leg wasn't feeling very good. He came right out and was probably the team's best defenseman in the early going. Not saying he'll be back before he's expected, but Mesz seems to be a guy that tries to temper expectations. |

True. Maybe he's just being cautious. Perhaps if Gustafsson is out, Mez will pull a Hartnell and be in the lineup Saturday. |

In hindsight, I would have liked the Flyers to sign J. Schultz last year but who knows what would have happened with all the hype surrounding him? He has been so-so in Edmonton this year. - NickTheKid87
He wasn't interested in coming here. He wanted to go to Edmonton and had his choice of offers. As for his NHL play to date (after dominating in the AHL), pretty much par for the rookie course. |

He DESTROYED the Q...light years ahead of anyone else. If he wasn't plagued by the injuries and other health issue over the years, I think he matches Gretzky.
The year he found out he had cancer, he played half the season and still almost lead the NHL in scoring. Hell, even when he came back and played with the last place team he managed a 90 point season. - Jsaquella
It's a shame what injuries took from him. Regardless, imho, he was a better overall hockey player than Gretzky. |

Totally random...
In 1983-1984 in the QMJHL, Mario Lemieux had 282 points in 70 games. How the hell is that possible? - PLindbergh31
He was a 4 point a game player. He must've been making some kids look silly on the ice Breakin' off ankles with his fly moves yo! |

It just seems to me that Meszaros will not be overly enthused by his progress until he gets to really test his body out.
Obviously he'll trip while skating and tear his MCL, PCL, ACL and all the other CL's he's got |

1. Giroux and Jake together is a pretty scary combination, I hope they stay together for a long time. Factor in Hartnell and I think our top line is set for at least the next few years.
2. Hartnell is the heart of this team. You can see it in the answers he gives and the way he plays.. Plus he also creates space for Giroux which means he will create space for Jake
3. Pitbull. Here we go!
4. Gagne is a solid add..Not a game changer but adds to the team.
5. I am sure we can all respect what players like Fedetenko and Knuble have done but if everyone was healthy I play McGinn and Harry Z over both of them. I like what Harry Z brings..Speed and plays on the edge.. I remember last season when he went after someone in a fight in response to something else earlier in the season (can't quite remember the details). He needs to stay here.
6. I dont think the hit was dirty..and I think Mike Brown from TO getting a 5 and a game on that hit last night was also a joke. - opeth_pa
I can understand and even agree with playing McGinn over Knuble. But not Harry Z over Fedetenko. Fedetenko has become a whipping boy of late. Why I dont know. What is anyone expecting? Harry Z really doesn't being much to the lineup besides speed. Fedetenko is a veteran play, who can play well defensively. And is a key player for this team on the PK. Remember in the begining of they eyar when the PK was struggling. Now that Fedetenko and talbot have had some time to gel there, it is much improved. Fedetenko is far more important to this lineup then Harry Z is. Plus, take him out, that means Giroux is likely to spend more time on the PK. And that's not good in my opinion. Have to look at what roles players play on a team.

He missed his calling. A writer/reporter isn't what he is best suited for. He would have made a great character on the Sopranos. David Chase should have developed a special needs son for Paulie Walnuts. Frank would have been perfect. - PLindbergh31
A stunt double that mistakenly gets real cinder blocks chained to his ankles before being tossed off a boat 3 miles out would have been even better.

Let's not forget 1) there were virtually no butterfly goalies then & 2) both Goalies and Defensemen take longer to develop. Put a world-class talent into the juniors in the pre-dead puck era of hockey and there you go. - Flyskippy
On the other hand, you can only play against those on the rink with you. |

I'm not that optimistic. Hartnell was cleared for contact and to practice. Meszaros isn't there yet. |

Bill,
I gotta tell you, I thought the team did a great job of playing defense last night. I watched them break-up a lot of Washington's plays in their D zone by paying attention to detail and being disciplined (besides the end of the game).
But eventhough we won handily, I thought the offense was very ho-hum. That was probably the most boring game I've watched all year (minus the Gagne goal). Washington played at about the compete level as the Flyers in Tampa Bay when they lost their heart before the first period ended. Do you think the offense was playing down to their opponents, that they were adjusting to the line-swapping Lavy was doing, or they've been this discombobulated all year? |

The sad thing is, his actual article yesterday was good. But when he tweeted it, he got people all jacked up and they ignored the content.
Hell the Briere for Shattenkirk rumor got legs off his story, despite the fact he said in the column it'd take more than Danny to land him.
The problem is, Frank's the boy who cried wolf. |

Obviously in terms of points, Gretzky is virtually untouchable.
I think ML was a better overall player. He wasn't afraid to get dirty. |

Gagne isn't "old", he just has to battle through aging due the injuries his body has had to put up with. Great two way forward, underrated playmaker and a guy I would consider replacing Hartnell/Schenn in the middle of the box on the first unit power play. Schenn seem to has had trouble getting his shot off quickly enough when Giroux feeds him and Hartnell cannot do it without falling. Gagne still has a quick and heavy wrister.
As far as being a nice guy and the nhl leading scorer in recent years for the playoffs, let Briere see through his contract. He is well respected in Philly. He is a leader in Philly. The contract isn't far from being done and I have to ask how does Briere's playoff points get replaced? This team has trouble working hard when it matters, so why divide a guy who really brings it when things are on the line?
I don't understand why Harry Z is in the line up. He brings speed but so does Eric Wellwood but Wellwood also brings penality killing, while being responsible with his speed. - SuperSchennBros
Gagne is not a player you want in the middle of the box around the net. Hartnell was 2nd in the entire NHL last Season with 16 PP goals, so it seems as though he can do it without falling down. And Schenn has looked very good in his spot on the 1st unit PP. In my opinion, leave Gagne where he is on the 2nd unit, and let him add some experience and puck movement to that unit.

If you compare the rosters of the pens and oilers for each players first 5-6 seasons I think its not hard to make a case that mario was better. |
