1. Jay Feaster is an unbelievable moron who doesn't know the rules that govern his job.
2. That the Avs and Flames had a gentleman's agreement that the Flames would sign O'Reilly to an offer sheet and the Avs would instantly match - Jsaquella
The first is a given. The second is collusion and big time punishable..

Just going to put this out there, I'm confident this team will find a way to make the playoffs, despite the struggles. - BulliesPhan87
Just 20-games in -- beware the pitfalls of small sample sizes.
Teams that are playing over their heads will inevitably regress back to the mean (TOR, MTL, OTT, ANA), while teams like the Rangers and Flyers will level out and move up the standings.
Minnesota was at the top of the West at the 1/2-way mark last season... they failed to make the PO's. LA wasn't even in the PO picture at that point and they went on to win the Cup.

In a bizarre twist to an already unusual story, Sportsnet.ca has discovered that the Flames were not only in danger of losing 2013 first- and third-round draft picks as compensation if the Avs hadn’t matched the O’Reilly contract, but they also would likely have had to surrender the player before ever getting him in uniform.
That’s because O’Reilly would have needed to clear waivers before joining the team’s roster.
The unsigned forward spent part of the NHL lockout playing with his brother, Cal, for Magnitogorsk in Russia. According to Metallurg coach Paul Maurice and KHL spokesman Shawn McBride, he appeared in games on Jan. 21 and Jan. 23 – both after the shortened NHL schedule was back underway – which meant that waivers were required before O’Reilly could return to the NHL as a free agent midway through the season. - Jsaquella

The season may be short enough to afford one of the anomalies a big chance, but otherwise I agree.
Now people are tweeting that Bill Daly is refuting it, apparently the rules were changed for this season, so O'Reilly doesn't fall under the waiver requirement for players that played overseas during a NHL season.
So Feaster was trying to land him, not collusion and the story posted may be incorrect

I guess it was hard for us to know since, as far as I know, the CBA isn't publicly available yet?

I still suspect that now that the sched has gone back to a more sane pace for us, we start getting more practice and get on a bit of a roll.. We're win one lose one win one lose one. Need to build a streak. I say we finish in the 6-8 seeds.

To be fair, the rougher sailing may be out of the way, but the Flyers are still at a disadvantage in terms of games played. So to speak, they've already used a lot of their margin for error.

I think the Habs are a legit playoff team this year.
They look very quick and speedy.
